Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T10 LED Parker issues

    Hey Guys,

can one help me with T10 LED parker conversion in an R36?

this is the 3rd set i have bought and none of them are working and they are supposed to be CANBUS... its not the fuse as putting a standard filament globe back in works.

i have checked for polarity by turning them, that obviously didn't work. and put them in my forester and they all work no issues.

Have you tried them inside the headlight or just wires hanging outside ?

Are you getting bulb errors with them installed?

i fail to see how that has anything to do with it. there is no interlock on the cap. and the normal globes work outside the housing too.

is there a way to test if the bulbs are actually CANBUS?

maybe i've been getting duped by unethical sellers and buying products that aren't actually CANBUS

When you're changing polarity, are you cycling the key and the headlight switch to clear the errors?

By cycling the key you mean taking the key out then turning the bulb around then putting the key back in? Then yes. Even trying it with the key out and cycling the switch.

The original ones can on then went out after 5 seconds or so but these ones don't come on at all.

Dont buy ebay LED's. If you want good quality LED's that work in VW's without giving errors, look at Bold Sport bold-sport

These do not appear to be CANBUS compatible.

CANBUS compatible simply means the units have resistors on them, to simulate the larger power draw of a conventional globe.
You'll be able to tell, as a real CANBUS compatible globe will also be covered in heatsinks; and look a lot different.

LED globes have a certain polarity, too - make sure you have them the right way around. (If they work; they're the right way around)

I have LED indicators in my Octavia's headlights; and LED reverse lights in the tail lights. My tail lights are also aftermarket fully LED units and work perfectly, and do not produce errors - but that being said; they have huge resistors on them to trick the car into thinking that its still running the incandescents.

Please see the below image; you can easily see how much more "substantial" the globe looks, because of all the added heatsinks (for heat dissipation)
This is what you will need.

I both live and work not too far away so you might see me near Carrington occasionally (White Mk6 GTI with grey 5 spoke rims).

And yes i agree the Bold Sport LED's are expensive, but they are good quality and they work.

That Golf R now resides in Tasmania with its new owner - sold it nearly 2 years ago to put money towards house renovations and bought a cheaper GTI 2nd hand. Loved the R but it sat in the garage most of the time.

I wasnt aware the Passat R36 was able to have the needle sweep activated.....are you sure it can? Even with the Mk6 GTI, only some of them can support the needle sweep as it has to do with which revision/part number the instrument cluster is. Luckily i was able to activate the needle sweep in my GTI.

I'll do some research on activating this for the R36 and see if its possible. If so, then yes i can help.
