Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • iOS 10.x Bluetooth Dropouts & garbled voice on RNS-510

    Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing issues with their bluetooth when using an iPhone updated to iOS 10.x?

My phone will pair OK, and audio playback of Bluetooth music and apps (podcasts etc) is fine in Bluetooth Stereo, but it will randomly disconnect from Bluetooth and require a manual reconnect.

What is worse, voice call quality is garbled and voice calls in general are completely unreliable (not able to hear caller, caller not able to hear me, distortion etc).

There is a thread on Apple Discussion Forum on this with Toyota, BMW, VW, Mercedes etc drivers complaining of issues, but current statement from Apple from what I can surmise is something like "we made some required changes to bluetooth in iOS 10, and the car manufacturers have to update if there are issues".

As I've just updated my RNS-510 to see if it fixed it (and it hasn't) - not sure what else to do.

    Thanks,
    Shane.

I had the exact same thing, I reset my iphone by holding both buttons down until the apple logo appeared and it fixed mine up.

Damn. I've two-finger-reset, I've "Reset Network Settings", I've factory reset the iPhone and I've even had the phone replaced under warranty by Apple. Still having the issue.

Try forgetting the device - phone and stereo... and re pair.

yeah.... alot easier to ditch a $1k iphone for an android than a $20k-$100K car just to get Bluetooth working how it used to...
