  • RCD-510 - How do you play music in shuffle?

The standard unit in my Mk 6 GTI (RCD-510?) doesn't provide a shuffle mode to play CD or MEDIA tracks randomly. And listening to radio can get tiresome when the "DJs" get into their banter.
What options should I be looking at to be able to play my music in shuffle mode?
I have an iPhone 6 but it only has 3GB of free space not enough for my 20GB+ of music.
A portable media player may be the solution but then, as with the iPhone, I would lose the ability to control volume and skip tracks using the steering wheel-mounted controls.
    What do you use?

    Dude,

One word... Bluetooth. I've got an RCD-510 too and I stream Spotify through it every day. If you don't have bluetooth installed yet you can do it retrospectively pretty cheap. It puts the track name up on the screen and everything. If you set your phone up on a cheap ebay dock in front of your gear stick with double sided foam tape like i did you can even use it as a GPS and also use Siri to change tracks, play tracks or make calls using voice commands...

I'll edit this with some photos later.

I do have BT but no track information is displayed when playing and neither is it possible to control track play. Maybe mine needs an update?
Interesting link and suggested workarounds. I may try the "WinAmp" suggestion of playlists.

What year Mk6? My understanding is that the bluetooth module in early Mk6's (2010) provided only very basic connectivity. Later Mk6's had an updated module which supported the steering controls to skip tracks, etc.

I've seen the newer BT modules for sale, but they're not cheap and still need coding AFAIK.

2010 May. I think mine has the basic connectivity only. Nice to have BT but would be nicer to have track info and track control. Do you know if VW can update the firmware?
