RNS 510 problem

Hi guys

I fitted a RNS 510 V H to my 2011 Multivan a few months ago and it seem to work fine but i wasn't really using it much. I then fitted a 9W7 Bluetooth module and coded it(not sure the coding is right).
The sat nav keeps freezing up or seems to not be in the right place when driving. I have noticed when I play off the SD card it sometimes skips tracks as well.
I will post a copy of scan with error codes.

It sounds like an incompatibility issue with your 9W7 and the firmware that is on the unit. Since you are located in Melbourne, feel free to come by our workshop which can be found at: vwcentral

I will check your coding on the BT module to eliminate that from the equation.

Looks like we got this one sorted Fransnz! If it plays up again, i'm going to blame the hard drive.

Did you have any luck re-positioning the GPS antenna to see if it responded faster to your current positioning?

I changed the aerial and check the harness and still have the same problem. I think you right and it must be the hard drive. Not sure what to do about changing it.
Was going to see if I could find the original firmware version and downgrade to see if it makes it better. Do you know what it would have been?

Hi mate! If this is the RNS510 you bought from me in April, these are the details:
Originally purchased new from lithuanian ebay seller "and_jur". It is a RNS510 "H" version, build date December 2012. Part number 1T0 035 680 H, Hardware version HW H61.

Software version on the sticker is 2760 BUT the software version on the unit when I first bought it was actually 3970, see here:



Note the screenshot says hardware version "F" even though it's a "H" I was told on this forum that that is because the firmware only went up to maximum "F" but if VCDS says it's a "H" then that is the true version in VCDS.

I never had any trouble with this unit, had it for 2 years, and would be surprised if it's a broken hard drive?? Have installed tons of these in friends cars, including old C version (pre LED) and D versions, they are all going strong... (OK not tons, but have installed more than 10 for sure, it's so easy and only takes 10 seconds On one occasion after 1 year I had a case where someone's GPS played up and it was a case of broken GPS antenna - in fact the problem was at the back of the radio, when it was pushed in the GPS wire got bent at a 90' degree angle and got squashed - anyway a new GPS antenna from China eBay $18 and that one was fixed good as new.

Having said that I would suggest
a) Yes put a copy of FW 3970 there and see what happens? If it still persists then.....
b) Disconnect the 9w7 and drive around for a few weeks, see if that's the problem?
c) Maybe post up a full VCDS scan so we can see what the errors are you say?

I would be curious to know of any of the experts or regulars here have seen anything like this before, kamold, johnc, aussietig etc you guys would know best

Still having the same problem and have read up the about disonnecting the compass sensor as it maybe messing with the sat nav.
Has anyone ever heard of this before?

I am still having ongoing problems with my rns510. I have fitted the 9w7 version P to the rns 510 H. Do you think there could be a compatibility problem.
Going to try unplug the unit and try it out.
