Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • RNS510 with Fiscon Kufatec Bluetooth but no working microphone

    Hi,

Have had a Mk6 GTI for over a year now which came with Fiscon Kufatec Bluetooth unit installed. It was working fine the last year and all of a sudden it stopped working. The car has been sitting dormant for over a week and perhaps was low on battery but don't think that would have contributed to this.

Anyone know who could have a look to get this fixed (Sydney based) or thoughts on how to address this issue?

    Cheers

Can you find the control module. If so dsconnect it and reconnect. See if it works then mate.

      ^^^this.

Try and start your search by looking under the driver's seat. After that, try passenger's seat, and finally.....if not there, it'll be 'hidden' behind the dash/Head Unit.

Nothing to it, mate — a 5 minute job.

With small screwdriver or other suitable device, prise out the RNS510 surround — it’s all on clips — and remove the 4 Torx 20 screws holding the head unit, which will now slide out far enough to allow hand access.

There's plenty of slack on the wiring to let you work behind the unit.

Ok. Thanks for all the advice. It's worked! Used an old plastic trimming tool I had from an old car seat cover set to pry open the cover and low and behold the Bluetooth unit was hidden behind the head unit. Disconnected the plug and reconnected again to the Bluetooth control unit . Then just had to pair the phone again and it works! Very please with myself and thankful for the help. Cheers!

9W7 and 9WZ.....awesome bits of kit.

Good work on finding the Kufatec unit and reporting back so quickly. Others will be thankful to see this result when they experience similar problems, and will have confidence that it is a job they can tackle themselves.

Good to know and thanks. I updated the firmware on my Fiscon Kufatec Plus this past weekend. Originally it was running Mainboard 1.73 and PBoard 1.83 and after updating it changed to Mainboard 1.73 and PBoard 3.12.

However, I still cannot wait to replace it. Two key things are the insistence on the phone to interrupt whatever is happening on the screen (soundwise) whenever anything happens on the phone - so message of any sort, email etc, and everything gets paused. No sound is played - just pausing as the phone symbol comes up on the display, then after about 3 seconds it starts again (although it used to be a longer before I updated the firmware). On some occasions it does not receiver from this and you have to resort to turning off Bluetooth on the phone to allow sound to commence again, which will only happen when the car is restarted so that it goes into pairing mode..

Secondly, it only allows Bluetooth music streaming through the front speakers which takes me back to the 1980's.

Most definitely time for an upgrade me thinks...
