Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Opinion - 3rd party aftermarket media units (Apple CarPlay etc.)

    Hi,

Wasn't too sure whether this was more suited to this thread or the Golf Mk6 GTi thread.

I really just want a few opinions though. I'm a purist I suppose, so I like things to be as they were designed, however as I have a Mk6 Golf without satnav, bluetooth etc, I've recently been thinking about an aftermarket media unit for the car. Specifically, Pioneer head units with Apple CarPlay.

The opinions I'm after is around whether people think this increases/decreases/does nothing for the value of the car and also if you were looking for a second-hand Golf, if you found one that had a Pioneer unit rather than the original VW unit installed, would that make you more/less likely to buy it or have no bearing? If you don't have an iPhone, the unit still has it's own interface with all the features.

The unit looks like this (but the screenshots are not CarPlay): AVIC-F60DAB High-end 2 DIN Car CD,DVD, GPS Navigation System with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 7” Touchscreen, HDMI, AppRadio Mode, and DAB - Pioneer Navigation - GPS

    Anyway, that's it. Thanks.
