Hey, with your ipod connection, does it send power to keep the ipod charged?
I have a cable in the glovebox that came with my car (fitted with RCD500) that doesn't seem to provide any power - get music, just not keeping the ipad charged.
Is there a fault with my cable?

My guess is that because of the age of your car/headunit, the iPod cable might be the older pinout design (Apple changed the power pin on the 30pin when they made the switch from firewire to USB, modern ipods/iphones/30pin-to-lightning adapters won't be charged by older style 30pin connectors - you need an adapter like this iPod Charging Adapter for iPhone and the new iPod | IFWA | by Scosche and others).

If you're trying to charge an *iPad*, I highly doubt you'll get enough power to charge it, your only option would be to get a 12v charger with a 2.1amp usb port.

How has the headunit performed so far? Im looking into buying a new nav for my Multivan.

Just at a guess, I would say there are probably better options to look at, as much as Watson keeps saying its going strong, he keeps having various issues, so IDK?

Stupid apple design. Well I'm not getting any indication of power to the old ipad 2 or through the 30pin to USB adapter I got. Now have to pull it out & look at an alternative.

Yea, i'd say that's as a result of the fact that iPads need a 2.1amp supply for charging. No way in hell your car (or many cars) would be able to provide that, except from a 2.1amp port on a 12v charging adapter. FWIW the USB standard provides 500ma, and so many people had heaps of issues when the iPads first came out because not many PCs had 2.1amp usb ports. It's because an iPad uses more than 500ma just sitting there idling, so you'd be going backwards

I'm sure that you can probably get a 30pin adapter that provides extra power from a 12v outlet, though.

The plan isn't to use the ipad - that was simply to test the cable with. I am on Android - so I got a 30-pin to usb + 3.5mm adapter.
Problem is the RCD500 doesn't recognise it as a device connected, so won't activate the Aux. No power over the connection either.
But when I hook the adapter to my ipad charger, I get power over the usb to my android pad.

I am looking at upgrading to an RCD510 which will play mp3. Seems simplest option.

Try Neutron player. Excellent dsp control.

Tried the neutron player but can't get it to find the correct sd card......

Are you running torque pro on your head unit? If so what adaptor are you using?

No I'm not. Actually sold the car so don't have it any more...slumming it with an RNS
