I love it how defensive people get over Alpine. I am sorry but for a 1kw sub that is usually feed that from a PDX or V12, no matter ported or sealed, they are not a loud sub. About 90% of the people I have spoken to regret going from 2x Type-R's to a Type X for SPL.
That VE rattle because it is poorly put together, any half decent 1kw powered sub should be able to cause some rattles. They are an SQ sub, like the Boston G5, Hertz Mille etc, they will play 30Hz all day everyday and rip out a kidney, but will not set any records for SPL. Ever thought why the boot is flexing? I can get my Oz ME with only 600WRMS in a sealed box to flex mine.
"Shake, Rattle and Roll" is a figure of speech man. All I'm saying is that it's pretty loud. Who wants to set spl records anyway - I for one couldn't hack driving around in ear muffs
hey man, very tidy looking start, will be interested to see how this goes. Any previouse experiance with this stuff? It looks pro!
Yeah thanks for the replies people
I am an accessories fitter(Auto accessories) but by no means am i a custom installer I have dabbled in alittle fibreglass work before but never really done anything nice, but im trying to step my game up.
Ok alittle update. actually the boxes are actually at the trimmers now, getting coverd in the finest leather I would have covered them myself but leather is alittle too expensive to be playing around with. but heres another photo before the glass went down
In this photo the amps are at the lowest point. The amps are actually mounted on a linear actuator. and when the hatch is lifted tthe amps motorise their way to the position. you've seen in the previous photo, pretty cool huh I will get a video and post in on youtube for you when the boxes come back. Thats the port right at the back before the egdes got shaved down (tuned to 32Hz) big lows here i come
I would have more photos but the only camera i have is my mobile phone, and it kinda got alittle wet and doesnt work anymore(needs new screen)
Yeah 32Hz is a nice SQ tune. The fact that you have ported it will make it just as loud ( if not louder ) than the sealed equivalent with double the power... but your saving you charging system.
Did you draw your set up idea off the R33 GTS "SXCR.33"? He has the same set up but the amps are 3x Alpine PDX and he is running some classic ZR subs and obviously in a Skyline although his is in the back seat.

Keep the pics updated !! Can;t wait till this project finish.
Just a curiousity. When you run 2 subs is it possible to have one ported and one sealed? ported one for those big BOOOOMs and sealed for the solid"er" punch effect? I Know running 2 sized subs are not recommended.
No, its like running subs in different size boxes, the whole idea is for the sine wave to superimpose to make them louder, this will also improve the low down Hz response compared to a single sub.
If you have subs playing conflicting Hz, cancellation and phase issues will arise.

Yeah the charging system isnt coping very well(but not doing too bad) I hook them up just before i sent the boxes to the trimmer. I really curious as to how it sound and OMG it is unbelievably loud for not a spl beast. but mainly to see how my battery is gonna cope.
Pretty wierd actaully the voltage sat on 11v and didnt move up or down with the system was nearly all the way up(while the car was running). Im really not sure which direction to head with my charging system I geuss ill start with an optima i may need to add a second one in the wheel well.
Have a look on you spec sheets to see the max current draw. If there is nothing on there add up your fuses and let me know.
Do you have a multimeter or some way to test voltage? You battery should be up around 12-12.6V with nothing turned on ( optima's are 12.5-12.6 ) and when turned on you should be up near or in the 14V's. High 13's is common and more than enough. An Optima / Oddesy / Stinger battery isn't a bad idea, I would check to see what is wrong first.

ok each amps has a 60amp fuse in each, so just with the sub amps the system can draw around 120amps my two channel amp has a 40amp fuse in it but that wasnt hooked up when i was checking the system. the fuse i had next to my battery was 120amp and when i inspected it actually had started to melt alittle. so im geuss my system drawing alittle more current then that.
Battery rests a 12.4volts while car is off. when car is running Battery is 14.2ish
so i think the charging system is fine.
Ok an update Ok ive got most of the install together boxes got covered looking pretty nice i reckon.
I also bought some 0gauge wiring to run through the car. also got myself some awsome stinger terminals and fuse holder. looks sweat.
Put the original cover on you can barley notice the anything there except the big red snake lol.
ok this is what its all about. I still need to make few finishing touches.
