Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2012 Jetta - RCD310, Voice control, A2DP control

    Hi all,
Apologies in advance if this has already been described elsewhere. I have spent a number of weekends trying to find the right information.

I recently bought a demonstrator Jetta (MY2012.5) 118 TSI Comfortline. It has the RCD310 headunit and the 9w7 bluetooth kit(photo below). According to the dealer, this car is unable to utilise voice control when paired with my iPhone 5. The voice control button just mutes the audio.

I came across a post which seems to indicate that function of the voice control button can be configured using VCDS. Can anyone else confirm they have voice control working on this combination of RCD310 and 9w7?

Additionally, when using bluetooth audio (A2DP), playback and skipping songs can't be controlled on the RCD310 or steering wheel. From spending hours trawling through forums, it seems that a RCD510 or RNS510 is the only option to resolve this. Can anyone confirm?

Coming from an older car in which I installed a $150 unit which has the above features, I'm feeling a little under-whelmed with the features. But I am loving the drive

    Cheers,
    Paul.
