  • Wireless reversing camera

    Hi all,

Has anybody used a 2.4ghz wireless module for a reverse camera in any installs? How did it go?

I had a similar type of camera on a caravan and it was useless Could get a picture if I had the camera in line of sight of the receiver but as soon as it was on van it wouldn't work. Suspect it was too much metal between camera and receiver.
Even shifted receiver to rear of tug but still no go.
Nothing like a wired one IMHO.

Whilst I haven't tried one, the reason I haven't is as Hillbilly has described.
Even if you did get it working, I would imagine it would be very temperamental. 2.4GHz is unlicensed spectrum, and is therefor very crowded with all sorts of transmitters. And a car is not a good environment for RF interference at the best of times.
While annoying to run cable, the result will be worth the effort.

I fitted a cheap wireless rear vision mirror camera to my dad's car, it flashes up the screen whenever he drives past a school (he thinks it is those school flashing light warning signs that trigger it). Because the rear camera is not powered at the time, it just puts white noise up on the screen for a second, can be a little distracting at night!
