Garmin Mechanic with Ecoroute HD

i have one of these in my subaru forester and found them excellent,has anyone tried them in the VW's?just plug and play in the OBD11 Port and connect via bluetooth to the garmin gps.

although Torque Pro looks to be more flexible (at least on an Android device).
