Hey Guys,

Was doing some more research on the AVC9000 and came across this website

Seems genuine and emailed the supplier. The price for 1 unit is $428 USD! Obviously if buy more the price will come now.

Not sure how much is shipping, currently waiting for respond from them.

Anyone interested? Only problem is getting GPS installed on the unit but as gtimk5 mentioned we should be able to plug tomtom onto it pretty easily.

That website appears to be the supplier of the Auspack Electronics. I too have been emailing and leaving phone messages to Auspack without response, and agree that at the minimum, the vendor should have given a estimated return date if they are overseas. It is frustrating to deal with a business which is non responsive in their service delivery.

That China site quotes a minimum order of 10 pcs. Was the quoted USD$428 a special one off order?

A few reservations. Looking through the thread, Auspack say they had modifications done to their stock. Also, the Model number on the China site differs from the Auspack one. (YDV889 / AVC9000). Has the China supplier confirmed he is supplying to Auspack? If so, the product he is supplying is Aussie compatible?
To be truthful, I would very much wish to support an Aussie supplier, who has done the legwork, and ensures the product has a warranty. But, on the other hand, that is pointless if the local supplier goes away without backup, and could therefore easily disappear into the night without warning.
I am prepared to therefore give Auspack a few more days to respond, otherwise, I will certainly look into the China direct product.

Not sure exactly what date Auspack were going to reopen but it must be sometime in the next week. I might have to check my emails again and let you know.
I know that when they first got there avc's it took them about 6 weeks to improve them to suit Aussies conditions so a lot was changed on them before they released them here.
The problem with buying things from overseas is backup and warranty. Also later on people complain that we dont have much in Aus cose the suppliers dont bother stocking stuff due to lack of buyers.
I havent bothered stocking much aircooler stuff in my business lately because people are getting their own in. (this means that down the track less and less stuff will be available in Oz)

I agreed with you all in terms of supporting local business however at the moment the price different between local unit compared to import is around $400.

This one seems to be able to provide TomTom with Australia Map.

I'm still making up my mind whether to take a risk and import one. If it work it will save me heaps of $$ if not i lose $400..

Western Union, ermm I dno't think so. Now if they accept VISA / Mastercard or Paypal no problems but heard WAY too many people getting ripped off paying with WU..

I'm going to wait and see what the local guy comes back with, if he is indeed supplying the unit, reversing camera, Ipod control cable and TOMTOM software and maps then I will grab one locally, I dont mind paying a little extra for peace of mind. Having said that there seem's to be many places these can be ordered from O/S. Already spoken to a guy today about getting one installed, reckons max $150 to fit.

Anyway, the waiting game continues.

Does anyone know of an expected return date for the Auspack guy?
That phone is still giving an engaged signal, so assume the mailbox is full and no one is looking at it.
I am getting close to looking at HongKong as the only viable alternative.

Guys,

My mate also was waiting for Auspack guy to get back to him about a unit for his Aurion TRD.

He rang him back last week after not picking up for a couple of weeks. Unit arrived here on Monday from Auspack and was installed today.

So im assuming he is back?

His Toyota unit came with route 66 maps...$895 delivered with ipod adaptor reversing camera (which is huge and he bought a smaller one that fits the factory spot) etc etc. So far he is pretty happy with it but needs to play around some more
