  • Voice Command Microphone for my RNS510

Hello all, l am looking at adding a Voice Command Microphone for my RNS510, l have read that l may need to update my canbus for this to work,is this true.
l am also looking for a place to buy the microphone kit from and are they only available from Volkswagen dealerships, or are there other alternatives , l have a list of all of my components and there firmware:

    RNS510 Model, 1TO 035 680C, HW H06, SW 4020

    CAN Gateway Label: 1K0-907-530-V2.clb
    Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 H HW: 1K0 907 951, Component: J533__Gateway H12 0150

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your replys.

You need to install something like this:
[yurl=http://www.carsystems.pl/xenon-hid-headlights-adapter-vw-golf-vi-6,id463.html]Voice control SDS - Harness for retrofit bluetooth wiring[/url]
Your CANBus gateway is not a consideration, has no bearing on this feature.

No idea how much a dealership charges, but I'd wager its more than this.
Note you need to change the coding using VCDS, seeing as you've posted label info I am guessing you have access to this already.

Consider getting an entire bluetooth kit from carsystems.pl while you're at it, it will include everything needed for voice control.

If you just want voice for the RNS then just buy a mic and plug into the back of the RNS using the wiring diagram from here.
          Volkswagen RNS 510 pin assignments | my-gti.com
Then you just need to press the right control knob in and speak.
If you already have Bluetooth and a mic you can tap off it.
most of the vw's have a second mic holder on the opposite side to where the original sits so you can place two in if you have Bluetooth.

Thank you all very much for your information, it is truly amazing how this community works, l have spoken to certain VW dealerships and they could not even tell me if it was possible, Lunchbox GTI l had just read that post on the wiring diagram on my-gti .com , l have one last question do you know where l can buy the mic from, is there anyone in Australia who sells them or is it a buy from overseas again.
Once again thank you all for your replys

eBay, dealer if you can find the part number ( and feel like paying a fortune), carsystems, I think Martin from Audi upgrades can get them. That's just a thew.

Ok so i was playing around with this as I have a bluetooth kit, so I assume an applicable microphone.

Does the star next to eject button always activate sds? I am trying to figure out if the obd11 app i just used actually changed this. So is the star normally mute as well? The phone button and star on steering wheel.

Right now if i push the star it brings up the sds help dialogue and she talks.. but shes deaf even though i have a BT carkit microphone.. possibly she doesn't understand the accent.

The mic needs to be properly wired.
In an rns config the mic connects to mic in on the rns, then mic out connects to the BT unit. If the BT unit was retrofitted and the right harness was not used (or incorrectly wired) the BT module is the only thing connected to the mic.
