Rcd 510

This didnt come up in a search before you all tear shreds off me..

I have the fairly useless RCD 510 in my 2009 Tdi Passat, I would like to remove it and repalce with someone that gives more options as far as Bluetooth, Iphone/music etc.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Doesnt necessarily have to be OEM.

You don't have to remove it necessarily.
You can add a 9w7 bluetooth module which will give you hands free calling as well as the ability to stream music from your phone over the stereo. You can control it from the multi function steering wheel or touchscreen RCD510.
If you also want navigation you can swap the RCD510 for an RNS510 or many 3rd party solutions. Many thrid party solutions have a built in bluetooth module so would mean you don't need the external 9w7 module.

If you dont need navigation then the 9w7 bluetooth install is your best value solution. Call and music quality is very good.

None of the VW units have Ipod or BT in them (save for a wacky RCD510 unit that has ipod). They're separate units your add to the car.

For ipod you add an MDI unit, i think they're about $200 with the easy retrofit cable.
Bluetooth you add a 9W7 or equivalent BT unit, these feature A2DP audio streaming which lets you play music from you phone over the BT, so if you have an iphone you can generally skip getting the MDI unit. Both the units will work with the RCD you already have and will also show up on the screen in your tacho (if its a white lcd one - not red).

Not interested in maps, and that sounds like a bigger more expensive job.

I do have the white lcd screen and at the moment get CD tracks on there.

All you need is the 9w7 bluetooth module.

You can get one from forum sponsor jku locally. They can also arrange installation.

or from Carsystems

You can DIY install, but will need to do some coding to get everything 100% working. Not sure of another member in Townsville but there is Bambozonke in Mackay who may be able to assist with that side of things if you want to go for a drive.
