  • RCD510 - Garage stereo help..

    Hi All,

I currently have a RCD510 sitting in my garage - never used and still in the box.

I would like to convert it into a garage stereo for something to do.

Is this possible? If so, what pinouts will I be required to use (besides the speakers and power)?

    Any help is appreciated!

    Nevermind.. Figured it out.

It needs pin outs 12, 15, 16 to be able to power up. Now to sort out the pin code issue.

I know I could sell it and buy something cheaper but that wouldn't be as fun.

The plan is to build a suitcase/travel trunk stereo for the garage and I like the idea of a touch screen interface and the ability to connect up a few LCD screens etc.

Managed to get the pin code which allows me to continue on with the project.

You'll need some sort of CAN emulator, as it'll shut off after 20 minutes or so, without some sort of CAN signal.

Believe it or not, this was something we discussed at VW technician training

I love projects like this that make no sense but are a technical challenge to make use of what you have on hand

Im not convinced Umai, a mate has fitted one to his 2006 golf, CBF'd upgrading gateway so has just disconnected the 2 CAN wires, Ive also done it to another car.

If this is the case, these radios would turn off after 20mins driving, they dont.

Just going on what one of the trainers claimed.

Happy to be proved otherwise. If it works fine without a CAN signal, all is well.
