I have in my VW Golf Mk5 TDI '06 RCD-300 and recently bought RCD-310.
Is it plug-n-play or do I need to do some upgrade (canbus...)?
Thanks guys
Hey mate,
I've done an upgrade for someone with an 05 TDI going to a RCD510 and from what I can tell you need the new gateway, but you could always give it a shot first and see if you have batt issues?
And is it the model able to have aux input, bluetooth media streaming etc?
You could also upgrade to RCD510 with 6CD and SD card slot for just a little bit more.
To find out if you need to upgrade the canbus, you need the VCDS scan of your car
and then look in this thread http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...all-75217.html if yours could be upgraded, needs to be replaced or is OK to use.
If you want to scan your car and find out whether you need to upgrade, PM me. Almost certain that you would.
The physical upgrade itself is not that hard, but the coding of the gateway can cause issues. Jimmy said mine took a bit longer because it thought it was a LHD German Audi Diesel.
If you are confident (having read the gateway upgrade procedure on My-GTi) then you can borrow the VCDS cable for coding
Al..
Mine's a late 07, MY08 with full screen MFD and RCD300 MP3 (but no aux input). I gather this means it will have the newer gateway. If my gateway needs to be changed I might not bother with it at all as it really isn't that important to me.
I like the look of the RCD510 but I think it is a touch excessive for what I want (I'd really just be happy with just an Aux in cable).
Be also aware that even though you have battery drain, the radio might turn itself off when the battery charge is low, thus you might just get an almost discharged battery.
