It just changes the coding value, nothing the VCDS can't do. If the function is available to be turned on in your car then it will work.

Why not start a group buy since there's so much interest?

It actually seems to do it itself.

"What is the function of mirrors down ?

Advanced Polar FIS can be configured to engage on selection of the reverse gear for the passenger mirror to dip down automatically to a preset position. There are 2 modes: Manual and Automatic.
In manual the mirror will lower only if the passenger position “L” is selected.
In automatic, the mirror will be lowered only when the car is parked with the indicator directed towards the space.

NOTE: Due to construction features of vehicles it cannot be guaranteed that mirror position will be "perfect". On models equipped with this function from factory the mirror incorporate a position sensor, which does not happen with those without park assist mirrors, so the mirror will function in the same way, but can not be guaranteed to position "millimeter perfect"."

So you're saying even for cars without the function available, the unit is able to tell the electric mirrors to dip down a set amount on reverse?

I'm also curious about the claimed comfort indicator settings. I thought even with VCDS, the number of flashes can only be adjusted in newer models, something like 2010+, and then only between 1-5. Polar FIS claims it can adjust up to 10 flashes and also switch off the comfort indicator if you tap the indicator again while it's flashing. These are things that VCDS couldn't do, so that's interesting.

Perhaps it's not changing those VCDS settings, but sending it's own signals

              Illustrative guess:

Normal: User presses indicator stalk down a bit > gateway receives this command > gateway checks in comfort indicators are on > gateway checks number of flashes setting (vcds setting) > gateway makes indicator flash x times

PolarFIS+: User presses indicator stalk down > PolarFIS+ receives this command > checks it's own stored setting value > sends command to gateway to flash indicator light x times (as if you fully pushed the stalk down and then flicked it back up after x flashes).

Same with mirror lowering, perhaps it just sends the same electric signal to the gateway that would normally get sent when you push the mirror switch (sort of like recording a Macro in MS Excel)

Well I have mirror dipping enabled with VCDS and the box is even ticked and displayed under the convenience menu on the MFD.

But guess what? Does jack in my Tig!

Some ppl on other forums say that the actual hardware required in the passenger door for it to work is missing on the Tig.
Function definitely works on a Golf.

Never really got to the bottom of it or bothered investigating further.

Same story with puddle lights underneath the side mirrors and rear passenger doors.

Tight@$$e$ @ VGA have historically decided on deleting these off our Tigs as well.

However, have managed to get automatic rain sensor closing of sunroof working. But far too well!

My Tig actually closes the cloth shade on the sunroof everytime, if it's overcast or raining whilst it's parked and locked.

Initially I thought gremlins were at play, as I don't remember ever closing the cloth shade when I got out of the car.

Mirror dipping not on all Golf's, only those with Park Assist (self parking) option ticked.

The Golf R has it without park assist.

Mirror dipping requires electric seats. They use the same module to remember positioning.
As it mentions in the PolarFIS+ FAQ it cannot get millimeter accuracy on the mirror positioning as it is not the same hardware. Useful feature nonetheless.

its entirely possible it just moves the mirror down 'manually' from the position you have it set at. then moves it back to approximately where you had it.

time will tell! I hope mine arrives before the weekend

EDIT: Doh ETA is Monday the 12th

This is on the Tig you mean? Because that's not the case on the Golf - as Ryan says above, Park Assist is all that's required (and neither Park Assist or electric driver's seat on the R, as it's standard on that). Maybe that module is fitted in conjunction with Park Assist on the Golf (and in isolation on the R).

I would also be definitely interested in a group buy. Having said that, I'm keen to hear users' opinions (from this forum) of the device installed before I slap down the cash.

We have electric seats in our Tig but mirror dipping still doesn't work so it's not related to that. (have enabled it in VCDS but still nothing)
