  • Samsung Galaxy S3

    Hi guys,

I have just moved to a Galaxy S3 from an iPhone.

I am trying to get this paired to the RNS510 via bluetooth but am having trouble. I'll turn the phone bluetooth on, and then search for it from the RNS. It finds the phone and supplies the password to enter.

I enter the password on the phone and then press ok on the RNS. The phone then shows that it is paired. But the RNS keeps coming up as "phone incompatible".

Has anyone else come across this or knows of a work around??

    Regards,
    Toby

If it's like the mdi, and then it might not be compatible at all.. Sucks as I'm in the same boat!

Hmmm. It's a complete bummer. Seems a bit ridiculous that it wouldn't work. Any reason why it wouldn't??

Only thing I can think of is to go into Bluetooth settings on the phone and see if there is a 'mode'. Thinking it might be trying to use RSAP but not be enabled. Other than that, I've got nothing.

I believe it's an Ice cream sandwich fault / issue on native devices (s3). I know my mates s2 works no problems even though he's now on ics

My brother has a SIII, and it works fine with my RNS510. Pretty sure mine is a version C.

This is the latest S3 from Telstra which came with Jellybean.

If you go into settings and then to the bluetooth section the only options there are 'rename device' and 'visible timeout'.

FWIW, my S3 works seamlessly without any issues!

                Running Android 4.0.4.

Have the 9W7 BT kit running on a H unit.

My S3 worked fine. Then started to hate phone. iPhone now. Works better in every way.

Well I'm loving the phone. But this is driving me nuts. Must be doing something wrong. Will keep trying, last resort might be the dealer.

That can't be right, I thought the release date was October 9th for that one.

Check settings -> about device, and see if android version says 4.1.1.

Honestly I hate locked android phones, they often have issues specific to the one carrier and then the wider community may not be able to help. Never had any problems pairing to anything on my S3. Works much better than iPhone

Is it possible to reverse the connection i.e. make the RNS discoverable and pair from your phone?

                        Hey DkN,

Telstra have been offering it online since the start of the month. October 9th is the instore release. The android version number on my phone is 4.1.1.

I'll try the reverse method in the morning. But the strange thing is, that it's showing up in the phone as paired with the VW, but the VW is saying not compatible.

Wow, so there you go, it isn't an ics issue. My SII running a Euro version of ics runs fine apart from i often get a "cannot download all telephone book" even though it seems to have the whole book in there (not easy to tell,i have hundreds in my book these days, many with multiple numbers).

It is a jelly bean issue!? Wow. Wonder what google changed in that department for Bluetooth.

Nah, I have Jelly Bean and have no issues. I have an ANS unit though obviously, not the RNS-510, but it's A2DP all the same, so any problems would be the VW end.

I have just got my shiny Galaxy Note 2 running android 4.1.1 and have this problem, too. Talk about a major let-down.
