Installing firmware 4020 on RNS 510

Hi all,

Updated the firmware on the RNS 510 (1T0 035 680A) in the R36 over the weekend which worked a treat . The update also changed the revision number to 1T0 035 680 D (as displayed in the secret menu).

I'm now looking at installing firmware 4020, as listed in the thread http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...dex-65460.html.

Question is, do I install the firmware from the link "Firmware 4020 for old version A units only"

OR the one in the link "Firmware 4020 for 1T0 035 680C, D, F, G and 3T0 035 680A, B, C, D units (includes VIM, secret menu, and maintains existing HDD partition ratios (default or custom)))"

Has anyone run this update that can comment?

Your unit hasn't changed from an 'A' unit despite the new identity reported.
You should use the version for older units.

There is no visible/performance difference between 39XX and 4020

Running 3810 (used the one listed in the main firmware updates thread).

Is it worth upgrading to 4020 given I'm not running 39XX?

not really. Unless you want bragging rights...it's not worth the time/trouble.

from memory...same same. Kamold will be able to really define any differences.

I took my A unit all the way to 4020 (incremental)...and while I understand your IT philosophy..believe me...there is no advantage. Some have reported a degradation in performance with 4020 (I haven't experienced it), but it is something to be mindful of.

Yes ... unlike Toyotas with added TRD badges, unfortunately not that simple to get a performance upgrade.

4020 allows you to use Voice control to enter navigation addresses. Once you work out what input it expects and in what order it works better than I expected (better than taking your eyes off the road or having to pull over).

Not able to download the 4020 firmware for A units from File Factory as the file is larger than 500 MB. Anyone able to put the file on Google docs or have a link to a mirror?

Or maybe it requires the latest maps as well... can't remember (upgraded from 39xx and v4.1 maps at the same time)

It's actually the new map data that enables voice control. I beleive its been available since 27xx series but our map data was not compatible.
V4.1 or above.
