There is no difference in the picture quality from RVC between RCD510 and the RNS510, since the camera sensor is very small.

In bright sunlight does the picture flare out so details cant be seen.

Had a camera on a Caravan that did that Was one that was optimised for night vision and flared out in daylight.

Wasnt a high quality one at all.

Does you camera have infra red LED's around the lens

I realise that but what I meant was that when the camera is in direct sunlight a cheap one will overexpose and the picture flares and you cant see anything.

Doesnt matter what the screen orientation is, its what the camera is seeing.

You could be backing out of a garage and the tail is out in the sun and it will do it

I'll weigh into this, bright sunlight - no issues with flaring, VW camera to RCD510.

And a couple of lower light (same time) shots.

Will try and get some night ones too, but my camera is sharp and adaptable to most light conditions.

It could be too much of the sunlight, where the camera is facing up and you get part of the picture with too much light the rest of the picture will look dark as the camera auto adjust its aperture. Looks OK to me.

What's the image like at night when there are just the reverse ligh and the street lights?

                  .
What I was referring to is when the camera is in DIRECT Sunlight as in the sun is shining right at it.
All those shots have the camera shaded from the sun
Take some with the sun directly behind the car and see what you get.

FWIW, how the hell do you get direct sunlight into the camera?

Isn't it pointing down at the ground?

Anyhow, perhaps a faulty camera as there's really no settings that you can play with.

Just park it with the sun directly behind it and see what happens.

I know the camera points down but reflected light off the ground can upset some

If you look at the first pic, that is in full sun, I actually had to shield the screen with my body to even take the pic, so you are right when you say you can't see the screen. That is as bad as mine gets, as the camera does point down...

Yes I understand that but the camera is not in the direct sun and that is what causes flaring.

Of course if the sun is on the screen it will be hard to read but thats not what Im talking about .

Park the car with the sun shining directly on the rear and then take a picture of whats on the screen The camera I had was fine till it was like that and then the picture just went into a big patch of whiteness. Nothing to do with the light in the car. Was the camera overexposing due to its design limitations.

                            right back at you
The sun is shining directly on the back of the car in that photo, is like that every morning when I go to work.
The camera, a badge pop out type one, is not in the sun, the sun would need to be lower than horizontal for it to be shining on the lens because of the design of the camera. If it is, can someone call a tow truck please?
Other than that, I've got nothing

I think that anyone with the RVC will find that in certain conditions the RVC image on the screen is similar to yours or otherwise imperfect. What I'm saying is, that if the RVC works well in other situations, then there is nothing wrong with it. The camera sensor, optics and the software would be inferior to even the low end pocket cameras, so don't expect the image like from DSLR.

The above is without seeing the image and conditions in the real time and being there, so trying another RVC could reveal that yours could be faulty too. The easiest would be to try the similar car with the same RVC at your place. Any friends that have the same car living close to you?
