  • Different RCD510s....Which one?

    Hey all,

I'm not sure if this has come up before, apologies if it has...

Im currently looking at getting an upgraded rom RCD310 to 510 and I'm noticed there is about 3-4 different variants. Does anyone know the differences or at least which one is better?

I'm looking to hook a Bluetooth unit to it as well. Will all of them have the same features and work with steering wheel and Bluetooth (any model)?

    Cheers

Not aware of a whole lot of variation of the RCD510's, sure you are not thinking about the RNS (although I have heard rumours of chinese made units of late)
Best bet is to buy one locally out of a late model golf, is a straight swap for you.
No, not all the bluetooth units have the same functionality - read the (last 5-6 pages at least) of the bluetooth thread, and if you want specific functionality (ie A2DP, AVRCP) then that should be able to point you in the right direction.

There are different versions made by different manufacturers (eg Delphi, Bosche) for different markets. Slight variations but not sure what exactly they are. Something about the video inputs, maybe DAB and XM support etc

As 99_FGT mentioned, best bet is grab one from someone who has replaced theirs with an RNS510 (try user jacs, he swapped his out last week).

For bluetooth modules seems like the best bet at the moment is the 9WZ units which are available from ebay user bluewagen.

if you are going to upgrade to a RCD510 get one locally. That way you already have the systems built for Australia.
We dont get the XM Satelite or DAB version - they will not work here anyways.

DO look at getting one with the YELLOW 26PIN Adapater on the back - it allows for RVC (Rear View Camera).

        RCD510 Units go for 250-400 on ebay.au

Post in the Wanted section - as people always upgrade from RCD510 to Navigation RNS510.

BT kits like 9W7 and 9WZ work great with the RCD510.

Thanks for your help guys. I had a look at a GTi in a parking lot today and saw the RCD510 and noticed it was different to mine. I'll be going for that one as it would be a local Australian market version.

Just make sure you get the radio pin code with the unit. No code no buy.

This one will easilly take a cheap iPod cable to connect your iPod to the unit.

Transporter, are you aware if the MDi input will function with this if I'm swapping out an RCD310 for an RCD510? You noted the iPod input on the back of the Unit - is this where the MDi connection (if it's a separate connection) would plug in?

                    Cheers,

If you have a MDI connection already with your RCD310 than probably any RCD510 should retain that feature, no matter what connectors are at the back. Kamold or other with more knowladge, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't take the picture of the cable that connects there, but it had the USB at the other end, and customer said it was the cable for an iPod, I'm not sure if it would play from the flash drive. I didn't try.
