  • RCD510 SD Card questions

    Hey Guys,
About to fill up an SD card for the RCD510 and have a couple of questions:

What type of files did you load the songs on the card as? .wav .mp3 etc?

Do the songs or artists need to be in a certain order etc.?

Did you put play lists in?

    Cheers
    Simon

MP3, not sure if they will play WAV files. Won't play the ipod file format (M4a is it?)
I honestly haven't had a lot of luck with the SD card, as I tried a stacked and a flat folder structure, and both proved very slow to load on startup.
I have heard that playlists are the way to go, with playlists at root level, and one folder at root level with all the music in it. Never got around to trying it (I should try again though). This was all with a class10 SDHC as well...

So they load fast enough then? I'm talking 20-30 seconds EVERY time I start the car. Can be halfway up the road and all of a sudden music started.
What folder structure and file format are you using, and what size cards?

          They load instantly, no delay

Thrown in as single mp3s at root folder, as grouped files in sub folders

Mix of old cards (16mb to 2gb) to current high speed cards (2-4gb)

I used up all those random cards that come with cameras etc

          All perform the same

Note, all mine are ripped at 256 max

I also have a Class 10 Extreme IV Sandisk SD and it's pretty slow. I have tracks in the ROOT folder and folders in ROOT for albums. What do you guys mean by playlists? .pls file?

I use an 8gb class 4 and only have a slight delay on tracks with a high bit rate.
I've got about 8 folders in there, but no subfolders below that level.
All tracks play and load instantly except the ones at a high bit rate, which take maybe 3 seconds.

Why would it support exFAT? Almost every device in the world supports FAT32, exFAT requires a license from MS.

I have an RCD510 and have discovered that 4GB SDHC "mix tapes" work brilliant...

My Ipod classic via the Ipod cable is much more unreliable I have stopped using that...

                            Cheers

you will find the 32GB are extremely slow. I tried this in my old RCD510 and got so annoyed with the delay (minutes) that I ended up just using 4Gb cards.
