  • 9W7 and iPhone4S drops Bluetooth Connection

I'm having trouble keeping my iPhone 4s and 9W7 connected. I've had no problems previously with an iPhone 4 or 3GS, both running IOS 5.

I've looked at a few threads regarding the 9W7 plus a few regarding the iPhone 4s and have not found anything.

My problem is that the phone drops its Bluetooth connection once hanging up from an incoming call. It can be reconnected by "resetting" the link by disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth (easiest way to do this is by entering and leaving flight mode on the phone).

I've seen a few posts on other forums suggesting that disabling Siri helps plus others saying that it's an Apple issue that may be fixed in IOS 5.1. I tend to believe it's an Apple issue as it's only been a problem on the 4s.

I'd be really keen to hear whether anyone's had similar problems or if anybody has had no problems at with a 4s using other Bluetooth units (say a late version of the 9w7, a 9WZ or something)?

    Thanks

Just did a little experiment in the car this morning.

    I disabled Siri.
    Called my wife, no problem.
    My wife called, no problem.
    Exited the car.
    Got back in the car.
    Called my wife, "call failed".
    My wife called, rung out.

This is going to be hard

Anyway just thought I should post before anyone thinks that disabling Siri might fix the problem...

Thanks Walbjj! It's good to know I'm not the only one and I'm not going mad.

I upgraded IOS to 5.1 when the release came out on Thursday hoping it might help. It hasn't.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has an iPhone 4S who hasn't had problems. What kind of Bluetooth setup do you possibly have?

        Thanks.

Just chiming in that I have the same "dropping out" problem on the RCD-510 and Golf R MY11 with 9W7. The iPhone connects, makes a few calls, then the phone will ring but no ringing through the car speaker system but says it is still connected. And if I try to make a call it says it fails.

Only fix so far, is to answer call on the iPhone, then turn bluetooth off and on, then connect back to car, then all ok for a while again. Or just flick Airplane mode on and then off.

              Things tried so far :

              Upgraded iPhone to 5.1
Deleted pairing and re-added on iPhone
Deleted pairing and re-added on MFD
Disabled Siri to see if that is causing any problems.

I am experimenting now to see if it is because I hang the call up or if they do, as it happens after that.

Any other tips would be appreciated, and I will post back if I find a fix. I have an appointment to get MDI firmware update next week, so hopefully that will fix it.

^^^ did it used to work previously without issue? and then with the updates it no longer works?
i reckon it was at least 2 updates ago

                  MY12 Golf GTI - RCD510 + 9w7 BT - Works fine - iPhone 4 (not 4S) - firmware 5.1

I've simulated the behavior from others testing above, no issues or call failures.

Anyone got a iPhone 4 they can test their vehicles with to isolate if it's the 4S BT having a sook?

It has only happened since iOS 5.0, I would consider going back to iOS 4 but need iOS 5 for iCloud etc.

Sounds like a problem with the iPhone 4S and iOS 5. also the 4S has Bluetooth 4.0 and the iPhone 4 has Bluetooth 2.1. So maybe its because if the new type of Bluetooth and the rcd510/9w7

Either way I was hoping 5.1 would fix it but no love yet.

                      Hi Piñata

I'm not so sure it's IOS 5. The reason I say this between my wife and I in the last year we've had an iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4s all on IOS 5 and they've all worked apart from the 4s. My suspicion is, especially given IN2VWS's comments about premium Bluetooth working, that it is the 4s firmware / hardware not playing nice with the 9W7.

For this reason I'm really interested in anyone that's been able to get their iPhone 4s to play nice with their 9W7 or the later 9W9. If this is the case then I think it is then going to require an upgrade of the version C 9W7 I have currently.

I will also add, that the premium bluetooth works with my wifes iPhone 3GS and my old iPhone 4. All phones are now on iOS 5.1.

                          Quick update :

I went into Volkswagen this morning to get an update to the firmware in the 9w7 Bluetooth and a nice guy there said he had a similar problem with his iPhone and his golf, He said to take it to Apple as it is a Bluetooth issue in the phone. At first I was a little doubtful since it used to work fine, but booked a genius bar appointment, and got the iPhone on the Diagnostic program and yep he was right, the Diagnostic program said it had a BTServer problem. So they have just replaced the iPhone with a refurb and I am now going to pair it and see how it goes.

I will report back with results. Hopefully this will be a fix for you other guys with the same problem as missing calls was causing issues with business.

My iPhone 4S seems to work fine in the new Cabriolet (with whatever bluetooth it has standard).... But both mine and the Wifes 4S iPhones have constant issues with the bluetooth in the Pioneer AVIC we have (Parrot bluetooth apparently). Half the time it works perfectly then it doesn't. Never had an issue with the 4 or the 3GS units we had.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I had problems with my previous van that had the Pioneer AVIC fitted. It was hit and miss whether it would connect or not.
It put me off Pioneer for life.
