Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just read this in another forum any ideas ?
maybe because 7679 is not final version??

I think the structure on the SD card has to be,

      /personalPOI/personalPOI.db3
Well ppl just aren't following the instructions properly.

Speaking of confused. I've been going around in circles for a while now. I still cannot load my own .db3 file. I can load aussietig's, but cannot add to it, or change anything in it using POInspector. If I choose "Edit category" in POInspector and select my own icons the new icons will appear on the PersonalPOI list on the satnav POI selection screen, but the icons on the map itself remain the same. I get it that the folder icon has changed, but the data in the file hasn't, but how do I change the POI icon on the map.

My own POI build seems to load. The satnav tells me that filespace is used on the drive, and that I have several thousand POI's, but when I select "PersonalPOI" on the screen it just "blips" and nothing happens.

aussietig's database is pretty comprehensive, but I'd like to at least be able to add some of my own POI's from GPS Data Team, or change some of aussietig's icons. Ideally I'd like to load my own POI database. If anyone has the patience to give me some "For Dummies" type clues I'd appreciate it.

I had the same thing - I wanted to change aussietig's PersonalPOI.db3... I changed some icons, and whilst they changed on the list, they did not change on the map. What I did was export the category in POIInspector, then clear it out, delete it, and add a new category with the icon I wanted, and re-imported the previously exported POIs. That then successfully used the new icons.

Adding new categories in pretty simple in POIInspector - d/l POIs from POIDB or similar, then create new category, import, give it an icon, and voila...

Maybe he's exceeding a built-in limit of categories.

So my links contained in post #21 are now to revised versions of both the PersonalPOI.db3 & POI.db3 (V5 map) files.

NOTE: Have not bothered to update the POI.db3 (V4.1 map) file however.
Do these include the updated trapster cams?

Nah, I don't think so. I have added a few to Aussietig's PersonalPOI.db3 without any drama, by following the process I noted above.

EDIT - sorry, that's a reply to the previous post, not vraptor's above.

No. I've just stuck with POIDB.com as only source.

As you'd appreciate there's already enough categories to refresh as is.

Too time consuming to compile and re-compile from various sources.

For those who want to add or modify icons on my POI files and are seeing no change on the map.

If you are changing the ones on the PersonalPOI.db3 file, then make sure you're selecting those to be displayed.

My guess is you've somehow selected the ones from the POI.db3 that sits within the 'Categories (Alphabetical)' or vice versa?

But this is assuming you've loaded both my POI files (one via SD and other via modified map).

I've definitely not locked the files. Wouldn't know how to anyway!

The other thing I can think of is you've somehow not rebuilt the database within POInspect0r, after your changes.

Try clicking 'vacuum current DB' under Tools menu (once you're happy with the changes).

SUCCESS!!!!! I've now changed some of aussietig's icons, and added some POI's of my own.

Thanks Swallowtail! Not that I need directions, but this afternoon I'll light up Dan Murphy's POI's then head over there to get a case of Cricketers Arms Lager with which I can toast your very good health. Thanks again mate.

I'm still using the old POI uploaded (not upgrading maps until the speed limit data is fixed) - I've noticed a couple of Shell petrol station icons show up where I know there to be no stations at all. One nearby was a little off. I could upgrade my PersonalPOI file but have to find my SD card reader first.

Yes ... that's one of the problem POIs that I've fixed in my recent refresh (hopefully).

Like I said ... my latest refresh (among other things) is an update of all cameras and petrol stations via the POIDB.com website.
