Yer ill grab some for people, had an idea though

Thinking about taping the new cable to the old one, using the old cable to pull it through?

Does a MDI need coding by the way?

Oh I think I get what you're on about now. The connector on the MDI might be different to the one on the stacker, but the wiring in the quad-lock connector that connects to the HU is the same for both.

My MDI worked ok without coding, besides throwing an error in VCDS whenever I scanned (Module 9 - Cent Electronics coded incorrectly). I told VCDS that I now have the MDI and cleared the fault code.

I just stuck the MDI box under my seat, then ran the cable up the A pillar, past the steering wheel then to the HU.

Hey there, sorry to completely drain everyone but...

My rns510 A series in my golf, the other day i though it was a D for whatever reason. Been trying to update the firmware with the D update, so clearly it didnt work.

After a while i gave up, so switched the unit on, and settled for updating the maps that it had, from V1 i believe to V3, using a disk from my other golf that was provided by the dealership.

My issue is, after i did this i think i selected the wrong option because without the disk in, it will not display the maps, and to make it worse, i cannot change it in any settings menu or anything!!!

and for whatever other stupid reason, weather it was the firmware or the maps update, NOTHING WORKS! Cds dont load, HDD cant be clicked from the media section, radio does not play.

This has killed me, no idea what i should do... i thought it may have been something to do with using the disk from the other golf which has already been used?

Any insight would be so appreciated right now!!!!

            Thanks so much!

You can only update the RNS when no key is in the ignition, you just hop in the car and manually turn the HU on and go from there.

If you didn't know that you can try updating again, otherwise a visit to the dealer might be needed.

yer thats what i gathered, i didnt have keys in just switched it on.

Think my issue is both trying to go to bigger jump in a firmware update, i should have done it in a few steps instead of going from the original to the most recent.

Think i need to try and find a solid firmware for a version A unit and just try install it, hoping it will bring the rns back to life

Maybe. Try installing version 26xx from the my-gti website.

All now sorted with a new loading of firmware. Only issue now is no steering wheel buttons are functioning and the mdf is not linked :S

Also when I try to copy from the sd card, I get this...

Starts and then just drops away and the folders don't get copied..

Try doing the copy when listening to music on your HDD, I've not had your exact experience but I do lose a little functionality when trying to play and copy from the same source.
