  • Few RNS 510 Questions that i cant seem to find answers too...

Hey guys, got a few questions that i just cannot seem to find answers to no matter how much googling etc i do haha.

    1. Is there any way of transfering my rns510 stored destinations to my other car? (also an rns510)

    2. Is it possible to install a Media Interface in my R32s glovebox and have it function as well as my cd stacker in my center console.

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

that one there to be more specific.

    3. Is there any bluetooth option that will allow me to change track of my iphone via the rns screen?

    4. Looking for a bluetooth unit for my red MDF display on my r32 (mk5) will a 9wz work? or is that just for overseas where it supports sms? or else ill just go a 9w7 i think..

    Thank you!!!!!!

    1. Don't think that's possible.

    2. I think you can only have an MDI or the CD stacker as they use the same plug on the radio. Perhaps if you had a soldering iron.... (not sure). I've retrofitted an MDI and my pre-existing 3.5mm AUX in jack has since stopped working.

    3. No, bluetooth is just streaming audio, you have to skip songs via the iPhone controls. If you connect the iPhone via MDI you can skip via the RNS screen or steering wheel buttons.

    4. Ask the eBay seller.

      1) I'm almost positive that the "owners manual" for the RNS510 says that you can save (or copy or export) your stored destinations to a SD card placed into the RNS510. You can then open those destinations on a computer, or import them into another RNS510 etc.

lol I don't have an owners manual for mine. Have never seen said options when looking at all the various screens.

I definitely know that you can import destinations from the SD cards.
The reason is, there is some VW Navigation website, where you can plan your trips on there, save them to SD, and then import them from the SD card on the RNS510. The website address escapes me atm unfortnately.

I'll check later to see if there is an export to SD option in the manual.

Hehe - I've got all my music on the HDD so I haven't used a CD ever since I installed the unit. If I get new music I can play it via the USB stick, or copy it to the unit via SD card. The only optical media in my car are some DVDs for when I'm waiting in the car.

yes 9w7 and up lets you do this on the screen.

only get 9wz if you dont have an iphone and your phone supports rsap, and u want to text on the screen, otherwise, 9w7 will be best.

i've got an iphone working perfectly fine with my 9wz unit.
because the iphone doesn't support rsap mode, the 9wz operates in hfp mode - essentially a just like a 9w7.

u can always disable rsap mode on ur phone, so the 9wz will function as a 9w7.

why don't people realise that a 9wz is a 9w7 with extra capabilities?!?!?

however i believe the 9w7 is alot cheaper though......so there u go.

so the 9wz is not missing anything the 9w7 has? Just adding more?

Where abouts did you purchase your 9wz? Best price i can find so far is 500 for a 9w7... of ebay.. thanks

eBay user bluewagon sells them, I bought one, but just went with the 9W7, neither of them are compatible with the red mfd, however provided the car talks to the 9W7 you can initiate paring from the phone rather than the car, where as I'm led to believe when using a 9WZ the pairing must be initiated using the mfd, which in your case can't occur as you have a red mfd not a white one, it may be possible though to connect the module to a newer car, pair the module with the phone using it's white mfd, and then transferring it back, it could work...

i actually got mine for an unbeatable price, from another forum member here. $150 delivered for the bt unit & two external gsm antennaes!! no bt wiring harness or mounting kit though.
i got the bt wiring harness from bluewagen for $100 delivered.
                        all it cost me $250.

i've got a discussion topic here.

as jameshero mentioned, bluewagen also sell the complete 9wz package - with bt unit, antennaes, mounting kit & wiring harness. i don't remember the pricing though.

that is true. u'll need the mfd (white) to manage pairings.
that theory of using another car with white mfd to pair, then transferring back, should work

still so pissed you cant use a cd stacker and an mdi at the same time.

Yes, they use the same wiring (which is why you can't have both)
