Rns 510 - no map display - screen white / black - all else works

Hi Guys,

I need some help.

Have a bit of a problem with the RNS 510.

I no longer have any maps displayed. Just a white / black screen, with the compass in the top right and the red circle and arrow in the bottom middle.

Everything else is working fine, radio, menu, lights and settings. I still get all other displays, just a white / black screen on the map.

Tried using the NAV to an address, all works until you click start, and it says no routes available for this destination.

I have reset the unit several times, and still no different. I have not updated the unit or messed with any settings. It was working fine last night, and this morning, nothing.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

I have fixed the issue.

Under the setup menu, there is a system menu. I went in there, and I had the option to reset individual sections of the RNS. There were 2 options for the Nav section.

I selected the 2 check boxes, and reset. I then exited the setup menu, and the map was working fine again.

Even though I had reset the unit via the normal method < > and Star button, it still had to be done via the setup menu.

Very handy, as you can reset to factory here, or choose individual items to reset.

I am having this same issue, was working the other night and today nothing on the map screen but everything else still working. Have tried both reset methods ( left right and voice button, settings reset) anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

Do what he says in above post Seems it worked Shame he didnt say what the text beside the boxes he ticked said.

Yeah it tried the settings reset as mentioned above but still no luck. Does not seem to be much info around on it. Hoping maps disc will revive it, but still weird it went from OK to not OK with nothing being done to it

Has anyone heard if the units just losing the satellite part if their functionality? The car is a 2011 so just out of warranty, do you think Skoda will still look at it without charging an arm or leg.

Unless someone can suggest something I have not tried?

kamold...do the VW firmware etc discs work on a Skoda?

I took it to the Skoda garage and they tried their firmware disc and new maps (for free!) But no luck, still no GPS lock. I have been running the new aerial for a while as the garage suggested it would be the that.
At this stage I might cut my losses and order a new unit, any suggestions for the best place to by a Columbus unit? And also can the vw RNs 510 be used in a Skoda, will it have the same functionality?

And lastly is anyone looking for a perfect condition Columbus unit that does not do GPS....

You are wasting your time taking it to a dealer You get far better help on here off the likes of Kamold etc.

Did you go to the link i posted and read that. Is it what your unit is doing.

As far as has been said on here they are all virtually identical apart from the faceplate surround Maybe the aerial is faulty . You could buy a cheap one off Ebay and try it before buying a new unit.

Yeah I have previously checked that syndrome out but it is not showing those symptoms.
If you mean GPS aerial I have tried 2 different ones plus the factory one in the car.
I followed karmold advice and reburnt the firmware disc with 1x using his recommend app and we tried the factory Skoda firmware disc at the garage.
I have spoke to the local euro car independent workshops as well plus read every link on the first 10 pages of a googles search on RNs 510 no fix/no satellite etc.

Is the an internal module that can be replaced instead of the whole unit? I may google that as last resort.
