Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
Lots of online how to's for this but you will need to do some coding with a VCDS lead. Not hard but having a proper cable helps, an ebay special probably won't work.
Not really. I swapped the CANbus gateway over in my wife's 2007 MkV Golf.
Pain the bum to get to it up in the driver's footwell (location may not be same) however it's a straight swap over from old to new. You just need to make a note of the coding of the old one with VCDS before you start so that you can program the new one with the correct settings.
There are plenty of people who have done it and most will work for beer (myself included)

What head unit do you have at the moment? And do you know the part number and revision of your CANbus gateway? (need to do a VCDS scan to find this out).

Unless you get the RCD510 really cheap spend a bit more and get RNS510 which has a better screen and also plays DVDs, the RCD510 doesn't. I got my RCD510 for Tiguan for $220 which was too good not to buy it, but I would pay $400 or more for it.
With regards to the GPS antenna on the RNS510, I read that it is not necessary for newer cars with the shark fin antenna mounted. Is that true? Can anyone confirm that? I'm assuming that'll make hardware installation a direct swap (without needing to find a place to mount the GPS antenna - i.e. on top of the aircond vent)?

If your car wasn't ordered with a Rns 510 it will come with just an ordinary Aerial ,the GPS antenna works very well on top of the unit sitting on the metal bar that runs through the dash
The RNS510 comes with a satnav antenna which plugs into the back of the unit. It plugs into the blue socket. If you have a shark fin antenna installed on your car, this antenna won't be necessary as the shark fin can be used as the satnav antenna. The satnav antenna feeds up through the vents and can sit near top middle vent. The antenna however is also magnetic and can be attached to a small piece of metal for easier fitment.
I have the MFD2 fitted with the Shark fin antenna. Does that mean if I change over to an RNS510 that I can just plug the existing antenna into the new unit, or will I need some sort of adapter?
thinking of getting a MFD2 to replace the stock radio... can anyone advise what else will need to be purchased to get the sat-nav going.. gps antenna , canbus etc ?
done a search and bit of a noob when it comes to sat navs so im now more confused
