The partition type used is not one that is known by most (if not all) PC file system tools.
If you can find something that knows how to handle Vienna FS then maybe it will work.

Quick question regarding the used Filesystem.
I just excahnged my faulty HDD in my RNS 510 with an SSD. so far so good
After reinstallition of the firmware the HDD did not showed up in the menu any more.
here is my oartition table from the ssd:
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sdk1 * 63 29303819 29303757 14G 88 Linux plaintext
/dev/sdk2 29303820 43954469 14650650 7G c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sdk3 43954470 58605119 14650650 7G 88 Linux plaintext
If i try to mount /dev/sdk1 to eg copy some Music " en block" to the ssd
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdk1
When i try to use fsck I get this:
fsck /dev/sdk1
fsck from util-linux 2.29.2
e2fsck 1.44.5 (15-Dec-201
ext2fs_open2: Bad magic number in super-block
fsck.ext2: Superblock invalid, trying backup blocks...
fsck.ext2: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sdk1
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a valid ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
or
e2fsck -b 32768 <device>
Found a dos partition table in /dev/sdk1
my question is , which Filesystem is used on the two Linux plaintext partions ?
Or can i just mkfs.vfat /dev/sdk1 and it will work ?
It's Vienna file System.
I've never heard of it outside of the rns510.
Beyond that I don't know anything more.
I'm not surprised that a Linux distro doesn't know what to do with it.

Having restored function (stuck in German lang, no sound) with old HDD and new firmware 5238, having trouble reloading to initialise for SSD swap. I read that the unit won't reload same firmware. Wondering if I enable firmware downgrade in secret menu, can I reinstall same firmware or do I physically have to downgrade or upgrade past 5238, but which version???

Must have pressed too many buttons, since i couldn’t get it to load. Have tried setting downgrade, then hard reset <eject>+<mic>+<Setup>, seen SWL screen but not prceeding. Then cd/dvd error and wants nav disc.
What’s next after enabling downgrade???

If the cd isn't being read try Buring again to a DVD at slowest speed using cdburnerxp disk at once.
Make sure it's good quality media like TDK gold or similar.
Try another burner.

I believe mitsubishi makes the best media = verbatim. Used dvd+r burnt at slow speed which worked fine with corrupt hard drive to install 5238 firmware update and restore full function. Wondering if hard reset cancels out the firmware downgrade option? Is SWL disc meant to auto start when inserted or are we meant to use hard reset + SWL (<eject>+<mic>+<setup>) to get started?

After swapping HDD for an SSD : existing DVD couldn’t Eject
Hi,
I made this interesting upgrade.
But i forgot to eject the DVD that was in the player before doing all the procedure.
Now that i need to eject the disk to insert Firmware DVD the disk inside can’t Eject...
Player turning a long time and then « CD DVD error ». Eject button don’t work.
Player is allways spinning and spinning but eject button don’t eject the disk.
I tried 3 button reset : nothing. Connection are ok.
Want can i do to eject the disk now ?
Reinstall the former « Classic » to return to a normal state eject will be (normally) availiable ?
Thanks you
Best regards from Paris (France)
Emmanuel

Ok it’s better know , i could eject the disk and put Firmware disk. But another problem now.. the RNS510 ask for the code and of course I don’t have the code.
I have all manuals of the car including RnS manual , but I don’t see this code anywhere .
Is there another solution than go back to a VW dealer ?
Many Thanks
Regards
Hi,
I got the code on a Uk code sites. Very serious , code Ok for 20€. They tried to ask me more money but did a the first price finally .
About SSD swap :
Finally a stop .
I clone the mechanic HDD to the SSD : RNS started once with no tactil function . And never booted after . Nothing on screen when pressing on/off. Thought about mother board failure due to wrong manipulations.
Then I mounted the original disk back again and : fine . Everything is ok like before.
I don’t know exactly what to do after having mounted the SSD . Perhaps things change depending of the hardware.
I noticed that the firmware is still when power on the RNS with blank SSD (so not clones). Perhaps must we just insert the DVD map and install it on the SSD ?
Regards
Hi,
Now that I am back to origin with the mechanic HDD , I have plenty of error :
- no more telephon function on the RNS
- no more rear camera
- no more sign assist
VCDS can’t connect to Navigation Module (37) and Radio module (56)
It’s like everything is canceled and RNS510 had never been there ..
