  • Which firmware for my RNS510?

Wanted to upgrade the firmware on my RNS510 but there seems to be lots of recent updates and versions and was wondering what was the best version to use.

The RNS510 is in a Golf GTI Pirelli and has never been updated so I would like to add the latest problem-free firmware.

    Thanks in advance

FW 2760 and read here for reason:

But work out what you have first, as might otherwise be a waste of time.

How do I determine which I have B,C or D? or what version I am running without VAGCOM?

Mate ... I don't like your chances of making this happen!

Here's link to thread re enabling secret menu:

You can find out HW and SW version via accessing that menu!

Also I hope you do realise you just might lose the data on HDD (depending on which version you're coming from).

So don't even think about it if you haven't got a map disk (as insurance).

        Nevertheless, good luck!

P.S. suggest you do more advanced searches on this sub-forum!

            I don't use POIs so don't really care... I went with 3810.

I just basically want faster screen response and more functionality with as few bugs as possible. I dont care for POIs either. Just dont want to load some buggy version in there

Most of the new functionalities are all about POIs.

Nevertheless, FW 3810 is the most stable based on what others have said on o/seas forums.

P.S. Definitely will lose map when moving to any FW 3xxx version for the first time!

Ok. So I gather its as simple as downloading it and putting it on a disk and running the disk in the unit?

I dont need to worry about what version my RNS510 is?? Such as B,C or D?

There is instructions/links on my-gti, I followed them and all good. Although it now thinks my C is a D.

So I gather the firmware will fit on any version of the RNS510 then...

                        It's just an illusion!

If it was a C before the upgrade, then it's still a C (despite what it says on the screen) after the upgrade.

                          Any ideas??

I had the same problem, have to burn the nrg file and mount as an ISO using nero. If that doesn't work try
Using another DVD as the unit can be picky with DVD formats

Suggest you use the software called imgburn!

                              Burn at slow speed also.
