NOTE: make sure .vcf files have been copied in a folder called exactly "destinations" on the SD card for this to work.
But once you download their "NavCompanion" sync tool, it should automatically transfer and create the files correctly!

Have also noticed with longer use that it may not pick up the destinations list the first time and you may need to escape and press "SD Destinations" on screen again.

Here's one I created, if people want to try and see if it works first: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B4H...thkey=CLjo3sEL
    I have a RNS510 D unit with FW 3890 and V3 maps.

I've just tried this technique with the new file formatted POI's from VW Labs site you've mentioned, and the "SD destinations" option was greyed out.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas.

    Cheers.

I've found you need to try it twice before It'll register!

But definitely works better under FW 2760!

Haven't been able to reload any POIs back via the DB3 SD card route either (using POInspect0r).

Have rolled back to 2760 for now!

Not sure if its already been covered but POIs do not work either with v4 maps and 3970 firmware.
Imported the db fine from the SDCard however as per with v3 maps POIs screen is blank

I just picked up a brand new golf R yesterday and I went to add in an address clicked on POI and it said please wait. You can't do any new destinations etc... escape or otherwise. I found that after the car has been turned off for a little while they RNS510 resets and will allow you to put in an address.

The disk the guy used yesterday was the V7. for aus and NZ. aparently there is a v7.1 but they didn't have te disk yet.

So not sure what FW etc I have but you would expect it to be the latest.

Anyone know where I can get the latest maps? I've had 2 addresses that wasn't in the system. I don't really care about poi's

I have exactly the same problem with my new R I took deliver of 3 days ago. The young guy who went thru the car features with me on delivery said there was a new version out very soon, one of their staff members had got his hands on it but hadn't burnt it to a CD I could use apparently.

It sounds like VW may be still giving v4 maps out with new cars possibly?

This behaviour happens when you have 3xxx series firmware and unsupported mapping data. There may be another reason but this would be the most obvious.

To be sure would need to know the firmware and map revisions. if you hold down the setup button for 15 seconds or so, see if a 'version information' selection comes up under the AF/FM buttons. If so report the map and firmware versions and we can probably point you in the right direction.

7005 is waaaaay out of date.
7492 is version 4.1 which you need.

Bingo, no more "Please wait..." junk, and custom POIs working! Thanks for that, took a while to find a working link to 7492, eventually found one and car maps now upgraded. Volkswagen should really be shot for delivering the car like this, esp given apparently you have to pay them big bickies for the MAPs DVD! My car was built August 11, arrived in Brissy late October 2011, so there are no excuses for the ancient (pre 2011?) release it was running.
