You pull the actual working part of the unit out of the armrest adaptor.
You lift the tabs on the armrest adaptor so that you can slide the actual working part out and then chuck it, it's useless.
YES, it fits in the glovebox.
I'm actually quite surprised that the MDI module is actually part of the armrest adaptor.

Yes, the MDI kit from the UK is the adaptor unit and the USB cable only.
For ipod you'll need to buy an ipod cable (about $20 shipped from Ebay)
The wiring harness from the German seller is a piggyback harness to actually connect the MDI unit into the car head unit.
GD, I'll be interested in reading your write up. I've got the complete console kit and will rip it apart for what I need. Would love to see how you installed it in the glove box.
