  • MDI part # 5N0057342. Best place to get ?

    Hi,

I need the VW MDI kit, part # 5N0057342. Only place I can find it is from the US at "VW Parts" - "Volkswagen Parts" - Parts and Accessories Catalog.. Costs USD 243 but I have had to email them re shipping costs. Like many US sites they do ship OS but it cannot be changed from the US in the checkout area.

Anyone have any other places to buy from ? I couldn't find any on eBay.

    Cheers

On their site it says :

NOTICE: INTERNATIONAL ORDERS MAYBE SUBJECT TO DUTY AND BROKERAGE FEES.

So I assumed that they did.......

have you googled the part number? Seems to get plenty of hits including shop4volkswagen, few on USebay for $250, ECStuning, oemplus, worldimpex

          Thanks Brad

Seems when I was searching on eBay it wasn't giving me international results. They are on there for $245, looks like thats the seller I will go with pending delivery costs

Can you keep us posted with what you find re: shipping costs. I may be interested also.

BTW, which car are you putting this into? I've purchased the "Media-In Kit - Single-DIN - Product SKU: 5N0035341B" for my Golf R but I think it's the wrong unit (will be starting a separate thread for more information). I'd be interested to know how you will be getting this retrofitted.

            Cheers,
            Steve

              Yes will do.

I am putting it in a 2008 Golf GTi. I have the RNS500 unit and need the MDI in so I can connect the iPod / iPhone from the glovebox connection

                Guys,

                It's much cheaper than that.

The unit itself was about $90 posted from this seller

The cable was about $75 from this seller

For the cable from the German seller you will have to request international postage. It was 15 Euros

These prices are shipped to Melbourne.

The cable took weeks to arrive but I got the box from the UK (including the $25 USB cable) in about a week.

Don't get ripped off buying the "packs" from Ebay or elsewhere.

Thanks but thats not the part I am after. I want the one so the iPod goes in my glovebox. I don't think the one you mention is suitable ?

I finished the install in my glovebox using the very same parts this weekend.
Save yourself $80 and buy them separately.
If in Melbourne I can help you install it, it's a piece of piss

So you're saying that this part : VW SEAT SKODA MDI MEDIA IN IPOD MP3 USB ARMREST ADAPTOR | eBay is able to be installed in the glovebox ?

                        Dude,

You pull the actual working part of the unit out of the armrest adaptor.
You lift the tabs on the armrest adaptor so that you can slide the actual working part out and then chuck it, it's useless.

YES, it fits in the glovebox.

Thats great. So the actual unit you take out sits behind the RNS 510 and it's just the cable that comes out through the glovebox ?

I'm in the process of writing up the install details (refer to signature for link) but havent finished it yet.

The actual guts of the unit is installed behind the glovebox (you have to punch out the tabs you see there) and not the head unit and you then plug the appropriate cable into the adapter box.

I guess if you were only going to use it for an ipod, there would be some flexibility in that you could keep the unit behind the head unit (hidden away) and then run an extension cable from the adapter box to somewhere else in the car.

                            Something like this

The seller has quoted me GBP 33.00 for shipping. What did he charge you ?
