Searching through the above manual there's no mention of this key (particularly since pages 3 & 4 are missing).

Should the RNS510 have an internal mic? Should I have installed one? Any other info on what the key does? There's an 'i' graphic on it as well.
LOL i was doing the same yesterday, had previously been pressing the * button (I have the LED version) and nothing was happening, yesterday while messing around with some settings i pressed it and the voice command chick comes on, i was shouting commands at it but to nothing seemed to work.

Mine just replays the last direction "Betty" said. Try it after setting a destination.

I'm a newbie to in-dash satnav systems, so what I'm about to say may be stating the obvious.

When I was driving through the harbour tunnel I was surprised to not hear any complaints from the RNS510 about losing the satellite signal. My movement through the tunnel was still being tracked even though it said there was a signal from 0 of 9 satellites.

I'm assuming then that the RNS510 is using the speedometer reading from the car to "estimate" the current position based on the last known GPS position.

However it does it, it's really cool! And when I 'surfaced' the GPS satellites were picked up in a matter of seconds. Very impressed with the unit.

For those who say they can't be bothered paying the $3k for RNS510, well they ought to consider one of these after market MFD3 units. Despite being twice the price of a top end portable GPS unit and potentially not as feature rich, there are many redeeming features. This is one of them. Integration with the MFD and the HDD for storing music are the other key points. I also appreciate the 'lift' in the interior.

I will go a bit of off topic now. Today I started to install BT into MY11 RS Octavia and everything went smoothly until I went to put back the RNS510. Here is the rest of it. I don't want to cut the wiring and connect BT wire only to the RNS main wiring, that would be the last thing to do.

Do you have any ideas? Or did you see the good installation instructions for MY10 or MY11 RS Octavia?

I'm thinking of bluetooth as my next upgrade to go with the RNS510. There seem to be more bluetooth solutions for RNS510 than RCD310.

Can't answer for the Octavia, but when I was researching the RNS510 I found this video on how to DIY for a Tiguan. The youtuber put the module under the passenger seat.

Looks like a bit of work, but it's an idea for you. Also note it's in French, but hey - it's a video and you can see what he's doing.

How do you tell what version maps you have? I've accessed the Secret menu today and it says Map Version HDD - 7005 is that Version 3? Also found out my software version is 2720, it should be 2760 so i'm about to send off an email to our ebay friend.

I cannot access the secret menu. I've tried:-

                  i) press & hold setup button while VW welcome screen shows
ii) press & hold setup button after VW welcome screen when the "system starting" message appears

                  Neither work.

I did read somewhere that the latest versions may not have this, but I want to make sure of the sequence of button pushing first before I give up.

As for the firmware, don't need to bother our Lithuanian friend. If you follow this webspage then you should be able to upgrade the firmware yourself.

Perhaps double check with others first before proceeding (particularly Maverick who I believe is on this forum & maintains that GTI site).

I had to enable it through VCDS first so i could access the screen.

He has already replied to my email and said he will fix the SW up, apparently i'll lose my maps so he will have to replace them also.

Can i ask how you found out the info regarding the satellites you mention above?

It tracks the speed/distance covered and the angle of turn to track you through a black spot. Pretty nifty I thought!

How is he doing the upgrade? I hope you don't have to send the unit back to him!

nah, he's going to upload the new software & maps for me so i can just downlaod them and install them myself.

yeah just wondering how cktsi is able to see how many satelites he is locked on to. I know you can access the information through the secret menu but unsure how he did it just on the normal nav screen.

Cool, then you'll have a copy of the maps?

If you go to the map screen, then to extras, split screen I think, it will come up with compass, goal and satelites. Press that and it will tell you hopw many satelites it's picked up and to what dimension the map can graph.

Very close to buying a 118TSI. It is fitted with RCD310, Bluetooth and MDI. As I don't even own the car yet I'd really appreciate it if anyone would be able to answer a couple of questions I have please:-

                              1. Will the bluetooth and MDI work correctly with the RNS510 from Ebay?
                              2. Is the install just as simple with an existing bluetooth and MDI (ie.. no special wiring, just plug and play like the youtube vids show?)
                              3. Not having Dynaudio, is there an improvement in sound quality with the RNS510 over the RCD310?

                              Thanks everyone. Great forum!

Assuming you have OEM Bluetooth and MDI fitted, I would say

                                1. Yes (with proper coding)
                                2. Yes, but you'll need to code it as above
                                3. I wouldn't count on it, but not an audio expert by any means
