Of course after a 4 month wait and after shelling over the cash, I asked where the cable is all of a sudden I get to hear the small print (not written ANYWHERE).
Complain to the salesman, and if no joy, ask to speak to the dealer principle. You'll get a cable.

FWIW my Skoda MDI came with an ipod cable but no USB. I bought the USB cable on ebay USD19.95 + $4 shipping. Works fine.

Hey Hooksta_v1, about the only positive thing I could say about this situation is that many people prefer the MDI to be installed in the glovebox as per the dealer fit option. When you get it from the factory, it goes into the centre console under the arm rest totally prevents you from using that to store common items (like your wallet, keys and sunnies). The dealer fit MDI accessory is usually $550, so if they decided to put it in there for you and still only charged you $270, then really, $85 for the cable of your choice mean you're still coming out in front.

Since it costs the dealer a lot more to put it in the glove box, maybe they already had the car you wanted (or very similar) already in the system and adding the MDI to the order may have delayed things - so instead they decided to dealer fit that in order for you to get your car in only 4 months, instead of some of the longer times people have been experiencing...

Hi AdamD, I like your optimism but I had the pleasure of speaking with the dealer principle when I picked up the car. Wrong compliance plate, wrong rear sill protector, wrong bluetooth, no ipod cable and no one there to deliver it to me....His idea of customer service was to claim it was my misunderstanding, point at the generic descriptions on the sales contract and claim that he has provided everything listed. His final suggestion was “If I’m not happy I’m free to make my own arrangements”

VWA sends out a satisfaction survey within a month or so of vehicle purchase. Your responses to this survey have a significant impact on the dealer, and from what I read, VWA are very proactive in following up to ensure the dealers are treating customers well. I suggest you take note of these circumstances, and be sure to highlight your dissatisfaction in your responses.

I'm truly looking forward to filling in this survey. It's funny but I couldn't get anyone to follow up on the delivery of the car and the delivery day was one of the most unpleasant of my life. Trying to get any action on the problems with the car has been almost impossible (it took 4 weeks and 8 follow up e-mails to get the correct compliance plate!!!).

In the mean time I'd received 2 letters of congratulations and 3 frilly phone calls obviously aimed at buttering me up in preparation for the survey. If they spent this much time getting the delivery organised as promised and actually checking the items on the pre-delivery list they'd have a better chance of getting top marks.

If anyone has a dealer in the Melbourne that they would be prepared to recommend for warranty/service work I'm all ears...

As with other car stereo systems, I knew that a normal USB cable wouldnt work with the iPod, so I made sure that the iPod cable was included with delivery of the car. It was just all part of the bargaining process. If you don't ask for it, they wont put it in.
