Sorry for the late response, it has been a very busy few months my neck of the woods. I didn't have any success with my endeavour.

    - The firmware update didn't run (I think because I used the wrong software to burn the firmware to disc - thanks Macbook pro!).

    - The maps update didn't run - period.

Both firmware and map files I obtained as torrents.... I don't think I can legally post the links (??)

In the end, I cracked the ****s and took the car to my VW service centre, complaining about infrequent freezing of the RNS510. They loaded version 3 maps, but not the latest firmware.

This entire thing has tainted my VW experience to such an extent, that I bought a new Audi A6 - which I picked up yesterday. Sorry I can't help you guys, best of luck!

lol.... but Audi are in the same position (as are pretty much all the car companies), being held to randsom by Sensis! So how was that going to help?

(though, the A6 is a great car... just can't see it making a diff in the example you mentioned).

I came to an arrangement with my Audi dealer. Free map and firmware upgrade with every service. I think that's fair, considering how much I spent with them!

Perhaps I should have mentioned that my VW dealer, Chatswood Classic Cars, weren't willing to provide me with the help I needed on this topic... So I took my business to someone willing to play ball. Effectively, chatswood lost almost 100k of my business for not playing ball.

It's not a VW versus Audi thing in terms of product, rather, dealer service. Dealing with Audi (so far) has been a dream. I am loving the A6.... Bloody brilliant car!

Fair enough. I guess that's one of the luxuries you can enjoy when you pay $80-130k for a sedan instead of $35-50k

Considering the cost of the high end Passat I was going to buy, around 85 grand, there is no excuse for poor service. I would expect it from Mazda... Not VW. Despite going to Audi, I am disappointed.
