I just ordered a new iphone 4 today, albeit it will take a week or more before I am able to take delivery. Has anyone amongst you taken deliver yet? What I really want to know is one simple question: does it work via your car's blutooth?

I can tell you that the iPhone plug for the MDI on my mk6 GTI doesn't work with the iPhone 4.

Have been using the iPhone 4 as an audio source (via MDI) to an RNS510 in a 2010 build Tiguan for the last few weeks, and it works very well. Have noticed occasionally the MDI won't update the song display when the next song starts in shuffle mode, but when changed manually everything works perfectly. Charging works correctly also.

No bluetooth in this car so I can't attest to whether that works or not sorry. No problems however with the several year old RNS-E (Audi-derived) navigation system bluetooth link in one of my other cars.

The new iPhone4 works fine with the Pioneer unit we have in the Multivan. I haven't tried plugging it in directly for media playback or charging but will get round to that.

So it seems if you were able to run a 3GS on iOS 4.0 you should be right and from what I understand the newer revisions of the CAN BUS & RNS do indeed play nice.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS running iOS4 are both running fine in my MK6 GTI with MDI.

My new iPhone 4 works better with the MDI than my old 3G phone. It also works with my new Skoda bluetooth system with no problems.

I've got this same problem with my iPod, and it only misses the first song following the one I've manually forwarded to. If I encounter the problem and turn the car off, it correctly displays the song when started up again.

                A minor but annoying thing.

Iphone 4 in a Passat with MDI works fine, was listening to it yesterday and browsing the audio.

I have Skoda Bluetooth and that works fine too, although I understand that there are address book issues with os4 and some of the older revision Skoda kits.

Same as OP, anyone able to confirm if iPhone 4 works with factory Bluetooth (77TSI)? Took a look at some threads for 3G but wasn't sure if the newer models were different.

Also, does the factory Bluetooth use the MFD or do I need to look at units from the stickied thread?

EDIT: Never mind, sounds like the VW bluetooth options aren't that great. I'll start looking into a Skoda or Fiscon.

Just tested my iPhone 4 with the MDI in a MK6 and it works fine. I have however not been able to get my 3G iPhone to work. On the phone it keeps comming up with some error about not being compatilble and the headunit says no media player is detected. Very annoying

Sorted now. The error still comes up but if you just leave you phone plugged in it will start talking to the headunit.

BTW sound via the iPhone and iPod is pretty pathetic. USB stick with the same music on it = 100% better, not sure if its the cable or what.

I don't know if you're using a cable into AUX? If so the ipod/iphone headphone port isn't a line-out port ... it has an amplifier designed to drive headphones (and pretty small ones). I have an 80gb ipod 5g "classic" which sounds great with my sennheiser headphones, however my iphone 3GS can't drive these headphones (impedance is 50Ω on these). The same ipod has a trouble driving the RD4 headunit in my peugeot (have to pump the volume about 2x the radio setting, even with the ipod on max volume.

Ideally you want line out from your ipod/iphone etc (audio hasn't gone through the amplifier yet) passed into your line-in port and then amplify that signal once.

... hopefully this is what the MDI ipod thingy does in the golf I am looking at buying.

Nope Im not using the Aux port. I have the MDI kit installed and using the proper iPod cable, might try my iPod classic tonight to see what it sounds like.

Take it back. It should sound as good, does on mine.
