  • New Stezza, not happy!

    Hullo,

I've been posting around that I'm getting a new stereo installed. Well today it finally happened.

I've been looking forward to this for years. That isnt an understatement! A long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away), I bought some stuff for my then car, which wouldnt fit in it, so its been lying around until I got a car that would fit it - the vr6!!

So today a Clarion dxz766usb HU, alpine type-x 6.5" splits and an alpine MRT-502T 2x75watt amp went in.

Now I'm no pro on installing, but i'm not happy with the job. Very not happy.

There's NO mid-bass from the splits. at all. They're not even working.
I requested all Audison cabling, wasnt done. They've used aeropro & stinger and the existing crap speaker wires instead.
I requested all the old gear be removed. Has been partially done. Infact, the installers been so lazy they've only removed the bits that obviously needed to come out to make way for the new gear. So half of the old splits are still in there along with their cross overs & along with the old coax's in the rear - which have been wired into the HU!!!
The tweeters have been placed in the window sails, and one fires directly INTO THE DASH (drivers side).
Theres more, but I'm getting over the flu so my brains gone all muddy.

I will be seeking recourse with the store early next week, I'm too busy until then but its very irritating that a car audio joint could have done such a BAD job! Amazing.

BTW, this is coming from someone who works in customer service. I know what bad jobs are. This is a total cock up.

The only silver lining so far is the head unit. Freaking amazing. Even with the botched speaker job it sounds incredible. Perhaps when the store fixes everything, it'll sound even better.

lol which audio shop did the install?

    stinger cables are pretty good.
also, are your splits amped? they are set on hpf so theres no bass?

I don't even know were they've installed the splits, so cant tell you
The splits are meant to be amped tho, yes.
I asked for bi-wiring but they said i'd need a 4ch amp to do it. No, that's bi-amping guys. Tried arguing the point but they didn't seem interested.

The atrocities were all committed at West Side Car Audio in Osbourne Park. Their cannington store has a big rep, but its freaking ages away from me, but osb park is 10min.

I'm still having trouble believing a $370 install job could be this... BAD!

Oh and the HU wont play mp3s off a usb stick if there are other files on it. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

Take lots of photos. what did you pay for the 766? i'll price up the replacement for you if you like.

Pitty your not in melbourne, i'd have done the install for you for half of what you paid.

**** man . . . thats why i do as much myself as possible! so I know its done right and is waaaay cheaper . . . good luck wid it!

Oh, and maybe if the Type-X's are anything like my DDR-Linears then they arent designed for bass, just for clarity which they do very well . . .

Yeah I was thinking of going DIY - but i know bugger all about cabling, drilling, etc so thought best to leave it to the pros. HAHA.

I'll be seeing what they can do to fix it during the week.

            Fingers crossed!

Matt, I spoke to my Clarion Rep and if you dont put your data files in the same directory as the mp3's it should work fine.

Sounds to me like something isnt turning off. when you get it started check if your amp/s are turning off when the car is off. sometimes a voltage difference between the hu and the amp can be enough to trip the amps internal relay!!!

False alarm... i feel silly... had left the interior light on and then went away for the weekend. I is stoopid!

Took a look at the wiring as best I could, everything looks okay (i studied electronics at tafe many, many years ago). The RCA's are sound quest though, not stinger like they said. Tsk tsk.

                      Finally, I found this:

I'm sorry, but that's crap workmanship.

Take it back and demand they fix it, check your tax invoice and see what parts they charged you for.

if they have charged you for stinger/audison componants, you shouldnt have stinger or Aerpro!

It sounds to me like the front splits are out of phase. Very comon mistake. but a stupid one. if the woofers are out of phase to each outher, it will cancle each other out. Try checking that everything is wired corectly. + to +, - to -. That what i would do first. then if you still have no bass, get back to me.

easiest way to check that is just to fade all the way forward and left, and then shift the balance to the center. if the midbass disappears then they are out of phase and its a simple task of swapping the +ve and -ve on the amp. rinse and repeat left right, front rear untill there is no loss in midbass.
