  • IPHONE USERS DO NOT UPDATE TO iOS4 IF YOU ARE USING VW/SKODA BT

    Hi All,

Just a heads up. DO NOT update to iOS4 if you are using the VW/SKODA BT module. You will notice bluetooth drop out as well as a scrambled address book. Your address book will look like this
    " ~"
    "``"
    " ? `"

Since I am a developer, I can warn you since it's officially public now. I have already submitted the bug to Apple.

    Cheers,

    Dean

Thanks for the heads up Dean, bluetooth is always a hassle. Wonder why phone manufacturers can't stick to a Bluetooth standard.

.... waits for the threads to appear complaining about the stupid Volkswagen bluetooth when the real problem is Apple and it's refusal to follow standards ....

Was just about to install it too. Isnt it possible to install the older firmware if you are having problems with the Iphone?

Can anyone else confirm the same issue with the new iPhone OS?

I was looking at getting the iPhone 4 in July/ August and also getting the Skoda kit installed in the GTI.... Now im thinking if I should still get the skoda kit installed?

DeanCorp can you please try some fixes people are trying here:

Resetting the phone (Holding down the home and lock buttons)
Leaving the phone plugged in the car while the car turns on
Deleting the bluetooth link between the iPhone the skoda kit, and re doing it agian with a new pin.

please let us know if any of these fix the issue you are having.

Please read the links above and see if there are any other 'fixes' people are posting up.

EDIT: or even try deleting the link on the skoda kit and on the iPhone, Then turn your car off, Reset the phone (hold home and lock), then try and initiate a new connection from scratch.

              Thanks!

Hi i have the same issue with our 2 iphones

both 3gs and both upgraded to 4.0

The only thing i have not done yet is to remove them and re-pair them

                ill try that tonight.

NB.. This is not really and issue for me and going to 4.0 far outweighs the phone book. But if
you use the Phone Book a lot then maybe hold off

interesting... just updated both out phones to iOS4 and didn't even consider the implications. Mind you we are using a Pioneer AVIC F20BT which uses the Parrot system…

Will try it out tonight and see what happens.

The reality is that we will be getting (as will many many VW users over the world) the new iPhone4 when it comes out so if there is an issue here's hoping it gets fixed very soon.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

whoistheg can you please try this tonight. My dealer wants me to confirm if I want the Skoda kit installed or not.

Does the iPhone still work with the MFD display where the speedo's are? like missed calls and whos calling you from there?

Right, done and tested, both the 3G and 3GS, both running iOS4 are working fine with my Pioneer F20BT (it uses the Parrot system AFAIK). Not that it helps people with the stock unit, but I'm happy

Sorry mate for the delayed response.

I tried EVERYTHING you mentioned, plus restoring the Phone to factory default settings on the RNS510. It then said downloading address book. But after all that the same address book appeared. I am thinking it is to do with the earlier revisions as my friend recently bought a VW/Skoda Unit 729 E and his is working fine with iOS4. Mine is the 729 B.

I just installed iOS4 to my iPhone 3GS and all works well with the Skoda Columbus Nav (RNS-510). I have the 729 D bluetooth kit.

If you want to roll back your iPhone to a prevoius version, there is a guide HERE on how to do it.

I haven't tried this in a while. But while I was BETA and tried rolling back it wouldn't let me restore from my backup because the backup files were a newer version than the current (downgraded) firmware.

                            EDIT: My friend has a 729 E. You have a 729 D. I am wondering if this only affects 729 B users?

With the Bolero and Fiscon BT in my Skoda the phone book synchronisation has disappeared after the OS4 update.
The only way to make the phone book appear on the Bolero screen is to un pair then re pair the phone and Fiscon otherwise I just get the "phone book unavailable" message on the screen when I try to use it.
The iPhone and Fiscon obviously talk because when a call comes in from somebody in the phone book it's correctly identified on the screen as "xxx calling".
