  • Pioneer AVIC F20BT vs RNS-510

I'm in the process of getting a new T5 Multivan , but it seems I have a choice to make due to availability issues.

Long story short I have three options:

Stick with the stock radio, no sat nav and save some cash.

    Pros: Cheaper.
Cons: No Satnav, have to wait till it's available.

I can wait for the RNS to be installed at some time in the future.

Pros: Factory standard unit with satnav, HDD
Cons: Price, I won't be getting iPod integration or bluetooth (unless I pay extra).
It's also been suggested they might not be the most reliable units with various reports of issues.

I can get the Pioneer AVIC F20BT installed.

Pros: Available now, cheaper and has bluetooth and iPod integration and reverse camera
Cons: Will it looks as good as the factory option? Will it work as well as the factory option?

I'm leaning towards the Pioneer unit since I have always liked their gear, my random net searching seem to show they can be installed with a 95% factory feel and I get far more features for the cash.

What I'm looking for is people's experiences with any of these units and their feedback/recommendations?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Go the RNS 510 without a doubt, full integration and it works and works well.

The Pioneer will not fit as well as it needs a frame to sit in, it won't integrate into the CAN bus properly even with the adapter, if you have a full height MFD you will get zero integration there unlike the RNS 510, if you have steering wheel controls you will need an adapter for that, it won't look as good as the RNS 510, the operation of the RNS 510 is so much easier whereas the Pioneer the interface needs a lot of work and the list goes on.

The RNS 510 can be picked up for not more more than a $1000 for a top condition unit. Bluetooth for the Skoda kit is $450 on top. Check out the look and feel of both units as the RNS 510 is much more intuitive to use and really integrates into the car well.

Just had a look at the specs and I assume you're getting the Comfortline? The Highline is the only spec that comes with the MFD display and the RNS 510 standard.
