ive got an my11 gti (received on friday!) and can say that the BT works absolutely perfectly with my old iphone 3g.... never misses a beat... the only problem is that to use BT audio u need to first select a song on the phone and press play, then connect on the radio unit (so u end up missing a second or so of the song). after that u can select whatever song u like. no big problem though, still a fantastic feature.
make and receive calls are easy, retrieving phone book and call records is never an issue, and it connects automatically everytime when i hop in the car and turn the ignition.... its such a great feature....

So here's the origin of the "9ZB" code : http://vag-codes.info/files/vag-option-codes.pdf - it's a VAG code... or, use this : VAG Codes and save yourself the 2mb download.

It is different to the 9W7 listing, but for 9ZB it is a VW part for UHV High

9W7 is listed as Preparation for telephone (all-purpose cellular phone preparation-NAR) - I assume NAR is North America Region.

Keen to see what our Canberra friend has to say... but I'm still going to pull the trigger shortly on the 9W7 kit I think.

Hi everyone. Thought my experiences as a noob might be helpful to others, and also have a question. When I ordered my Golf 118 nearly 5 months ago the bluetooth options were in complete disarray - every dealer had a different story and none of the offerings seemed to be very good value. So I waited until my car arrived and ordered a 9W7 from eBay. It arrived from Poland in less than a week and cost AU$550 landed having paid a little more for faster delivery. Berwick VW agreed to install it and seemed to know what was involved. They wanted a little over $300 for the job which seemed pricey considering what's involved but I didn't want to do it myself and it was less than some others were asking. The unit works very well with my iPhone 3GS, with great sound quality and integration, and media streaming over bluetooth is unexpectedly handy. So for under $900 dealer installed I think this is something I could recommend for anyone who is unable to avail themselves of the 9ZB offering. I have one question, though: Since the radio/CD/media mutes when the phone rings, I would have expected the RNS-510 spoken navigation directions to do the same, or at least reduce in volume, but they don't and I can't find a setting for it. Does anyone know if this is a VAGCOM setting which has been overlooked? Should I take the car back to the installer and ask them to fix it? Thanks

MT, thanks for the feedback on the 9W7 kit. $300 seems the going rate for a VW dealer to fit a VW OEM BT kit, they say it's about a 2hr job, so don't feel like you got hosed too badly on that (non-VW workshops might charge less, dunno).

In terms of the spoken nav directions, I don't know about the VAGCOM side of things, but from memory, don't they normally slightly mute the radio/cd/media anyway when the occur? Might be by design that they don't mute during a call.

Also, question for you with the 9W7, when it rings, does it use the ringtone from your phone or it's own one. Also, what happens if your phone is on silent, does it still audibly ring whilst plugged in? I have a Nokia kit in my wife's Mazda that still makes noise even if the phone is on silent.

The Navigation volume is adjusted independently of the music volume. It's in the settings of the RNS-510 somewhere, but the quickest/easiest way to adjust it is to actually turn the volume knob on the RNS-510 whilst she is giving a direction. So just turn up the navigation speech, and then turn down the music a bit

As Pepe said though, I don't beleive that it lowers the music volume when a direction is spoken.

Thanks for the feedback Metaltech. I've got a bluetooth system and RNS510 being delivered and hope to get Berwick VW to fit them to my 118 TSI next week or whenever the parts arrive (they quoted me around $300 to install both). Bit of a coincidence how similar our setups will be, and going to the same dealer

Thanks for your comments. Maybe I should clarify a little: music is automatically reduced in volume when there is there is a nav announcement, and there is an adjustment for the level of reduction. Also, music is muted when the phone is in use. My problem is that the nav announcements keep going when I'm on the phone, which can be a distraction, and I would have thought that there might be a way that they could be set to automatically mute in the same way the music does.

This may seem like a bit of a nit-pick, but I spend a lot of time in my car-office and my callers sometimes want to know what the background noise is!

Pepe, the 9W7 has a choice of ringtones, but does not use the tone from the phone. I will try it on silent for you and report back.

Ryan, I'd be interested to know if yours works like mine.

                          I got the 1Z0 035 729 E, which I'm not certain is the same as the 9W7.

That would be the 9W3, but I'd still be interested to know, since if what I want is possible on yours I believe it would be possible on mine. Hope you enjoy your car as much as I'm enjoying mine.

The RNS 510 is designed to only lower the volume of the nav instructions during a call, this can be controlled by the settings under setup and navigation IIRC. The reason for this is so you can still hear the directions and not miss turns etc but it can be turned right down. The exact way to adjust it depends on the firmware version of the RNS 510.
