As delivered to me, my RNS510 had a stored home address which (since it doesn't exist in Australia) showed as a Lat/Long position. Page 80 of same manual also makes it clear that the unit is quite happy to store locations which aren't on its current maps. Deleting this paticular entry (by replacing it with an Aussie location) killed all reference to Germany. Forever.

Personally, I don't care how it stores things - but the above is what the manual says and it agrees with my experiences.
Did you even bother to read what I said.

There is no UNIT home address. The unit stores it's last known location in non volatile memory ready for the next startup. It DOES NOT look at the stored home address or any other stored address from the Sat Nav interface, these are purely shortcuts to save typing in an address.

What you did had nothing to do with changing the location of the unit when it starts up, nothing at all and it would have sorted itself out without your intervention.

To recap, the home address is purely there as a pointer, it plays no part in the start up of the unit and nor does it play any part in the unit remembering it's location. All of this occurs behind the scenes and automatically.

Yep, Maverick is correct. The Home address is just a quick access memory store for when you want to quickly see a route to that commonly used location. It has nothing to do with where the Sat Nav system thinks it is when it starts up, or where it starts the maps from. Once in a blue moon mine comes up thinking it's in Europe, but it is very rare. And I have home address set to an Australian location.

By the way, setting your Home location to your real address is a really silly idea. If your car gets taken with your keys, you are showing them where the house is that the keys they now have in their hand will open...

Some suggest using an address nearby or down the road. I tend not to worry too much as if I lose my keys they have my address in the owners manual but no biggie as I can track the car I can see where it's going plus they have to get past the alarm and my final layer of security............

If you're service/log books are in the car they can find out anyway, along with any paperwork you may have in the car.

Not a bad idea setting a nearby intersection anyway as your home address - then you still get the benefit of hitting the home button and start heading in the right direction.

And how long is that supposed to take? Dealer said 30-40 mins but farted round for longer than that with no success. Four hours and several starts later I did it my way. Success in seconds.
Like I said - I can only state my experience.

And yes, my stored 'home address' is only 'near to home'

stored my address and it still starts up with germany and my stored location is in australia. Maverick you are right, storing your location has no relavance to the GPS knowning where it is located.

Still looking for a solution to this problem, anyone got any suggestions.......
