Kufatec and RNS510 voice control?

I'm having the Kufatec Fiscon basic plus installed by Northfireld Moorooka on monday. and asked to have a mic installed so I can use voice control.
Anyone had this done yet? just curious to know how well the voice control works on the RNS510

The Kufatec microphone is not compatible with the RNS 510 and the audio quality will be woeful. You need to get the genuine VW mic to work with the RNS 510.

I had the kufatec installed a few weeks ago and I have the rns510. I did not mention a microphone when I ordered it as I figured how would the phone work if it did not have a microphone.. Sure enough it was installed with a mike. People comment on how good the audio quality is.. Every thing works great. phone book comes up in the MFD display and is controlled by the steering wheel controls... sms works strange,,,
What do you mean by voice control? You mean to call phone numbers? Wouldn't that depend on the type of phone?

Voice control is a new feature of RNS510s with recent firmware - you can control the RNS510's actions by voice command, including the phone screen. Nothing to do with the phone that you have connected.

As Maverick says, the Kufatec mic won't work for voice control of the RNS510, but what you can do is have a VW mic fitted (they're cheap off eBay) as well as the Kufatec mic - wire the VW mic to the RNS510, leave the Kufatec alone, and then you can voice control the RNS510 including "Phone home..." style commands. Once the call is active, the Kufatec mic will kick in and all will be good...

Yes that's the one.

See the links I posted above. No it's not easy to install but it's not hard either, allow 2-4 hours if you haven't done one before.

I ordered it last night before reading your links... I gather the firmware on my rns510 (08 model passat) would have to be upgraded and then someone with vagcom would have to set it up. All sounds too hard.. Unles there is someone in Melbourne that could do it.

Ugg, for what it's worth I have the voice control (factory) and find it's more wank factor than anything else. Half the time when i ask it to ring the wife it tunes in to a greek radio station or something random. I've never found a voice recognition system that works well, whether it be via a mobile phone, computer, etc..

In saying that though, I'm in melb and have a vagcom cable so could probably help you out with that bit if you do the physical stuff.

Also, did you say your text messages come up in the MFD?

Thanks for the offer. I will keep it in mind if I can get the guy back that installed my kufatec.. When I say the sms works strange,, It rings but I cant see the sms. Yet all my older sms's are there.. But I have not checked lately.

I just checked and the sms's I got today come up on it.... I only had one when I was in the car and could not see it... Probably doing something wrong.

Well it seems things didn't go according to plan... the guys installed it and everything works except for the fact there is no sound coming through the speakers when placing or receiving a call, it switches out from the music or whatever is playing but just goes to silence. They couldn't figure it out.... the kufatec system worked fine in another car so that didn't seem to be the problem it's just not working on mine.
Any ideas anyone??

The Kufatec kit doesn't work with 2660. I think they were coming out with a firmware upgrade that you could apply to fix this but I don't know if it's out yet.

Good luck with getting it sorted, I've been there before with Kufatec and got jack of it after over six months of hair pulling.

mic cable...

My cable arrived.. I have arranged for it to be fitted next week... It came with a length of cable allready connected. The cable came with 2 pin connectors on it. Is there any cutting of wires involved or will they just plug straight on?

The mic is being installed tomorrow... How does it work, There is nothing about voice control in my manual. I could not find any settings in the RNS510.
How do you program it and what can you get it to do...

Well, the bloke arrived and removed the overhead console.. Surprise, surprise, There is allready a mic installed and he checked the back of the rns510 and the wires are plugged in... So what now, How to get it working?
