  • Replacement for RCD310

    Hi all,
Looking at buying the new Golf Wagon. THe stock radio with that is the RCD310. I'm thinking about replacing that with the AVC9000-1 or WD7050 after purchase.

What I want to know is whether I can do that just as easiliy with the stock RCD310 or do I have to upgrade to the RCD510 (with "premium audio" - is that dynaudio?) in order to do the plug & play swap?

What is the premium audio anyway? is it just speakers or is it also an amp separate to the head unit?

    Cheers,
    Cameron

You can direct swap from the RCD310 to either of those 2.

I am swapping my RCD310 with a Zenec unit when my car arrives in June.

Do any of the audio brands like Pioneer or Alpine have a headunit that will fit and function with the in-car buttons?

Don't like the look of this 1. I love Pioneer though, but his 1 could have looked a bit better ....

I don't think that unit is available in Australia yet. Pioneer and Alpine already have some nice double din units but I guess they don't integrate with the VW in-car systems. Surely it isn't that hard to do.

I would recommend reading the threads on here and golfmkv.com on these head units so you know what to expect. In particular around the power drain problems.

Makes no difference really, dynaudio adds an amp and speakers but pretty pointless in doing this if you're going to do an aftermarket stereo as it's designed to work with the oem headunits.

              AMP and speakers.

Consider the RNS 510 as it integrate in properly and would compliment the dynaudio if you were going down that path. You can pick up a RNS 510 that's used on ebay from Europe for around $1000 delivered or a new one from Tommy for $2000 delivered.

You'll get a few hundred for the RCD 310 as well.

There's only a very limited market when you consider how good the RNS 510 is and even the RCD 510 is pretty good. Integration is becoming harder as the communicate with other systems like the MFD and the AC, OPC, RVC and so forth and you won't have any of the AC display or the Optical Parking or the Reverse Camera displays on an aftermarket headunit.
