    Heh, 20k amp... hope it wasn't a 20k receiver.

Sounds like you'll be happy with it, i'm going to try and see if a dealer has the system in a car so i know the difference.

    cheers,

Yeah see if you can. I haven't found a dealer yet that has the system in a new car. It was a 20k Chord home theater amp. NICE!! JasonP from this fourm has the factory Dyn system in his golf and gave me a listen.

G-rig, I'm in Brisbane, have a GTI VI with the standard sound system. Any chance of hearing your set up?

With my home system I have Dyn's coming out of my ears, Contour S5.4's, Special 25's, Contour SR's.

I've adjusted the car's sound to give a similar balance to the home set up (minus bass extension of course). So its OK. I just wonder whether the compromised environment of the car means its just not worth trying to take things further. I would have got the factory Dyn set up if I didn't delay the car 5 months, so just got the stock standard stereo.

Sorry mate everything is out of the car. I think you'd see some nice improvements doing an amp+speakers but probably not worth getting too perfect about it (like i did) as it's not really the best listening environment, but the mk6 would be better to start with having the midbass drivers at the front of the door and 2-way is easier given all the different materials in the car etc.

Well maybe I should visit Northfield Moorooka and see what they say. So they have access to Dyn's? And the car still looks alright afterwards?

Yes I'd recommend them, they have done a fair few passats and mk6 etc.

The dyns and arc amps work well with the stock HU's.

Thanks. I'll just have to wait till I get a free weekend to go out and visit them.

the killer is when you plug in an ipod and play an mp3 file at 192kbps compressed to buggery.

Hopefully no one here with these lovely systems does that and judges the sound quality based on the output!

I agree, too many people with ipods and trying to fit as many songs as they can in the lowest quality.

You'll get the most out of the system with CD's or Apple Lossless/WAV.

Went to Northfield Moorooka last weekend. It was like visiting hifi shops of old. Back when the staff used to be so enthusiastic. Haven't seen that for decades! Looks like I am looking at 5 to 6,000 for Dyn speakers, new power amps and sub and installation. I'll have a think about whether I feel its worth spending that much on car audio, I'll make a decision after the new mechatronic unit is installed in 4 or 5 weeks.

5-6k ? thats nuts? what are they proposing to give you for that?

no wonder they all seem so enthusiastic!

$6000 was for Dyn 2ways in the front, Dyns in the back, new power amps, an 8 inch sub installed in the boot, sound deadening material in the doors, labour.....

As my car is only a 2 door, they said maybe 5000 if I don't worry about the rears.

All that was keeping the current head unit.

You should have went for the Dynaudio option. Way cheaper!

The factory dynaudio option would have delayed the car 5 months. The factory dyn is from the "excite" range which is their new budget line. The esotech is one notch up from that. Also they tell me the factory one uses the same power amps as the basic VW sound system, its only the speakers that are upgraded. And also no sub in the factory one and no sound deadening treatment.

But anyway, I may not get it. Think I want the Golf Mark 7 in 2012, so 5 or 6 grand on a car for three years is a bit of a waste, well I suppose you could then reinstall in the next car but...

Decent gear isn't free, and some people don't do it all at once but you may as well to save on some labor.

                                and not nearly as good.

You don't need to do rear speakers, just concentrate on the front stage and you can always take all the gear to the next car. You could also just start off with one amp but Dyn's like a bit more power.

5-6k over 3 years is nothing compared to depreciation and other mods etc.
