They are sure I received the correct DVD but the unit just does nothing when the disc is inserted. It dosn't error either.

Do I need to do something with the VAGCOM so the unit will accept the DVD?
    Hmm similar problem for me.

I just installed the new firmware, everything went fine but lost my maps, went to reinstall them from the original CD and nothing happens. I have read and followed the instructions in the book but zippo.

    Any ideas anyone?

What does the maps DVD that you have say on it... what version is it? You have an RNS510? 2660 firmware install does not wipe the maps, it just takes a while to come back and work out where it is.

Just go back to the stealers and ask them for the disc.

OK, so you have the right disk. If the maps are truly gone from the unit, then inserting a map DVD will prompt to load them. If they are already loaded and you insert the same version disk - nothing happens. Which is why I suspect that they are still on there. Easy way to test if the map data is still there is to start the New Destination process - does it come up with cities / streets to enter? If it does, then the map data is still there.

Do you have access to the "hidden menu"? I.e. did you alter the new firmware image to enable that, or do you have access to VAGCOM / VCDS to program the nav unit? If you do, you can go in and see the map version that is loaded on the HDD.

When I first got my car, it took a day to work out that it was not in Germany. So I'd sit tight for a while yet...

If you just see a white screen after the fw update it comes good after you go for a drive.

Tell you what were would we be without you guys, Yes i tried to enter a new destination and our lady came back to me stating, "No route recommendations for this destination"

Hidden Menu have no idea what or where that is, and no did not alter the new firmware image to enable that. Do not have access to VAGCOM.

But I am wondering whilst this has updated the firmware the files I downloaded being, Skoda-auto.part1 thru to 4 when I went to unpack these WINRAR reports that they are all the same, do you want to overwrite. I said no and only unpacked the first one, and from this one updated the firmware. Should I have unpacked them all and renamed each one slightly so it does not conflict.

The files etc in the Rar were fine - that's how Winrar works. When it's a multi-part Rar you only have to extract from the first one, it then grabs the bits it needs from the others. If it was wrong the firmware update would have failed.

If it accepted the destination the data is still there. Patience young padawan...

Some RNS510's lose where they are after the upgrade. If it repeatedly does it you may need to downgrade until that bug is sorted. But in the meantime let it sit for a day or so and let it find its way here from Germany... If you go into the Car Location data (can't remember where to find that though) you should be able to find the Lat / Long where the car thinks it is. $10 says it thinks it's in Germany.

Sounds like u should unpack them again as described above, and burn a new disc. Don't know if tou did it properly as you can't unzip one at a time as you downloa them.

Guys you are bloody marvels. Whilst I did go for a drive earlier I did not get the maps. Took G-rigs advise and just went for a longer drive and voila maps are back.
This OLD padawan is very grateful to you all, but hey Swallowtail what are these "hidden menu", how do I access this?

Tezza, (BTW I edited my post with some extra info on the location issue after you posted...)

If the RNS510 does that again, you may find you have a bug that is known to affect some RNS510s where it forgets location with 2660 firmware.

The hidden menu is an extra set of info on the unit that is accessed by holding the setup button for about 30 or 40 seconds. It goes through a couple of other menus first, but if you keep holding it you get the hidden one. By default it is not active - and can only be activated by VAGCOM or by editing the firmware image before loading it.

All is well with the world...........THANK YOU gentlemen.

Nah... cant access the, "hidden menu" bummer no wonder I could not figure out what version I had. Have to find someone local who has a VAGCOM to turn me on )).

One thing I do find interesting is that it does not look anything like what some of the other forums say the updated screen looks like, I guess it must depend on your firmware update.

Once again thanks guys I owe you a few beers

Figured it out, once again something to do with turning things on with VAGCOM, such as voice command, bluetooth, speed control etc
