  • maps in RNS510

Just wondering if I buy a RNS510 from other country or from ebay, how do I get the OZ maps to be installed? Anyone have bought RNS510 from ebay without maps?

Moved to the Audio and Electronics section as this applies to many models.

You will have to buy the maps from VW. Do a search for estimates on pricing quoted by dealers and Skoda.

all you need is to borrow someones dvd to get it uploaded.
but the rns510 will need to be coded to the car (about 2 hours labor)

I don't think that's the 'official' line. The DVD comes with a single user license so installing it on another would breach the license.

Back of the DVD case: "The parallel use of the software, database and map data stored on this data carrier is authorised for one navigation system only."

Side point here, but when you buy an RNS510 new from VWA via a dealer (i.e. as original fitment in a car), you are also buying a license to the maps. Therefore they must provide you with the DVD - this is your proof of license to the installed maps.

Also the car can be coded to accept the RNS510 by anyone with VAGCOM, not just your dealer. If it takes 2 hours then they are seriously struggling with what is an exceptionally basic task...

Probably explains the problem i'm having. I purchased my RNS510 from flea bay and installed it correctly. I decided to do the right thing and buy the v14 maps from VW parts (they didn't tell me they had v15 until after I bought v14 grrr). They are sure I received the correct DVD but the unit just does nothing when the disc is inserted. It dosn't error either.

Do I need to do something with the VAGCOM so the unit will accept the DVD?

You've got the wrong maps. v14 / 15 are for the older MFD VW sat navs. The RNS510 takes a map called v1 (based on v14) or v2 (based on v15).

How much did you pay for the maps?

I politely suggested that was the case to the VW guy and he got really offended and said it's the right map and I shouldn't have bought the unit from Europe and expect to get support for it here. I paid $550 for it which I suppose should have been the give away. Also apparently I can't get a refund because I broke the seal of the dvd box.

Last time I try and do the right thing.

I wouldn't give up that easily. They sold you the wrong map for your unit. The unit is sold here and they sold you the wrong one for it. Talk to the parts dept manager. PM me which dealer it was please, I may be able to assist.

                  Cheers

Yeah not sure why they would have sold you the old maps but 550$ sounds a bit cheap for the new ones. They aren't much use so I'd get a refund.

Picked up my CC yesterday and asked where was the Navigation DVD. Dealer advised me that maps are preloaded and DVD does not come with the car. He said that the dealership has "only one DVD" which they use to upload/service vehicles.

Any advice as to whether this is correct or should I have been supplied with DVD would be appreciated. Manual is not quite clear as to whether DVD is supplied but it does mention that Nav system can be operated from the DVD.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

When I had my RNS510 installed... I received a DVD with it.

Only way I realised - was I went to put a CD into the slot - and it wouldn't go in! THe map DVD was still in there...
Came in a plastic jacket - much like a movie DVD does these days.

That's BS. The map DVD is a single license install. If they really only have one then they are breaching the T&Cs on the map DVD. Ask to talk to the dealer principal and put your foot down. A license to use the maps comes with a dealer bought RNS510, so the DVD has to come with it or you do not have a license. This make me cranky...

The dealer should be giving you the disc i would have thought, you're sounds like they are saving themselves some money and using it to install onto everyones new car.

You should definitely be entitled to the disk. My saleslady made a point of handing me mine at collection of our car. Also said that they retail for $1200!!
