Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Passat MY13 RVC not working

My RVC stopped working, with no communication with the rear control unit. I finally got time to get it out, and it has a bit of corrosion. One of the pins on the connector is bent as well, I belive due to corrosion. Not sure how smart it was to locate this unit below the boot side pocket. I don't think there's a way to repair this pin, it can be seen bent in one of the photos?

I've seen new control units are about $400+, so will try to get a new one from the wreckers.

Can't say I've ever seen one of those get water damaged.
Might want to check where the water ingress is coming from.
Just get one on ebay or from a wrecker.

I think it must have been a bottle in the side pocket above it that has leaked. A friendly forum member is sending me a different unit to test. It's a version H08 instead of H11, not sure if it will be any difference.

I've managed to source a new module from a wrecker. I'm still getting the "rear view camera system is not available at present" though, so I'm wondering if the camera is not receiving any power. I'd assume that the white cable pair connected to the second connector for the camera (which has a red and blue wire) should supply 12v to the camera when the car is in reverse? I don't see any voltage across these at all, so I'm wondering if there is a fuse somewhere which is blown.

Tried to clear fault codes, I'm now getting fault 01043 controle module; incorrect software version. I believe this might be because I'm using a module from a Tiguan. It has coding 0020010, but it should be 0020007 for a passat wagon. When I try to change it, I get an Error 31: request out of range. I tried using security access code 22351, but it seems to work for adaptation only.

I've seen quite a few people having issues coding the j772 module, so I guess it might need something else than vag-com?

You have a Tiguan RVC module, not Passat. That's why it's reporting incorrect software.

Yes I tried changing the coding to 0020007 for passat, but it won't accept it, giving error 31: out of range.

                      The actual hardware is wrong.
You have a 5N0 part, you need 3C9 like the original part.

Ok, understood. Do you think a 3c0 part will work, from the pre B7 cars? Looks like there's a lot more 3c0 parts than 3c9 parts available.

I don't know from experience but I suspect the 3C0 part supercedes to 3c9, and the parameters will be the same as the B7 is essentially an electrically upgraded B6 with some different panels.

I managed to source a 3c9 part fairly cheap from Norway(!) in the end. The guide lines comes on briefly before they disappears, and I haven't been into vagcom yet, but assume it needs calibration before they will show properly. The car is being prepared to be sold in any case, so not sure if it's worth the effort to calibrate if I need to print out a big sheet etc.

                              Hi,
I have the same issue on my 2014 vw passat wagon, rear camera module found to have exposed to water. thinking of replacing one from a wrecker, I believe if I did I would have to code the RNS510 to the new module using VAG COM which I dont have, anyone with ideas...appreciated
