Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • RNS510 not remembering presets - audio steering wheel controls not working

    Hey guys

Recently my RNS510 lost all radio presets and the audio steering wheel controls stopped working. Radio still works fine, but if I save a station and restart the car the preset is lost. The steering wheel controls started working every now and then.

Car is 2012, mk6 R and I have scanned it with vagcom - no errors come up.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? if so what could fix the problem?

If it comes and goes then it sounds electrical rather than software.

I had issues with my rns510 losing setting when I left a camera connected to the USB port in the glovebox for charging. A firmware update fixed it however.

It's interesting you say that, because when this happened I drove from Melbourne to Canberra and played music via bluetooth of my iphone. Maybe it's similar issue. Might have to look at doing a firmware upgrade. Apparently my mechanic does that for free, and updates maps and all that, so I might get them to have a look at it, and the wiring too at the same time.

      Thanks mate.

Quick update to this. I've updated the firmware and everything is working fine now.

Followed kamlod's instructions from this post.

Thanks for providing an update with resolution.
Nothing worse than people either failing to update a thread or even worse, replying with - 'fixed it!' and then disappearing off the face of the earth...

Yeah I figured maybe someone else will have the same issue. Good job on those RUNS510 upgrade instructions - very simple to follow and very helpful! Thank you!
