Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Polo (MY19) LED Tail Lights - ODIS Coding (HELP)!!!

I just purchased a car for my daughter:
2018 (MY19) Volkswagen Polo 85TSI Comfortline AW 7spd DSG Auto with Metallic Paint / Sound & Vision package / Driver Assistance package / R-Line Package.

    Let the tinkering begin!!!

So I no longer have VCDS (long story), but still have my OBDeleven.

I am looking to change the rear taillights from the original to the GTI LED rear tailights.

Looking to purchase the taillights, however needs some additional wiring, no real issue with that.
But then needs coding, that is the stumbling block!

The coding is displayed below, requires ODIS.

I was wondering if @DV52 (Don) or anyone else with the know how, could guide me with the coding via OBDeleven?

Or can it only be completed via ODIS.

    ope126: Hi.

So, reading between the lines of your post - I assume because of your extract about coding, that the new LED tail-lights are TRUE OEM (meaning that the new fittings are to be purchased from VW- not from a third party supplier). Is this correct?

Manual coding for the project should be doable with OBD11 and I'm more than happy to help. However, to do so, I will need to understand which pin/socket on the 09 module is connected to each individual lamp on the new tail-light fittings. This means that I need access to the correct wiring diagram for this car - which I do not have!.

If you have the wiring diagram and you are prepared to send me a copy (via a PM) - I will be in a better position to provide more informed advice

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

      Thanks Don!

Yes, Genuine VW Tail Lights (I have purchased from a wreck).
VW do also offer a Genuine Kit, here is the link: Polo [AW] LED Tail Lights Retro Fit Kit – Volkswagen Parts UK
And from a third party seller: 2G2052200 LED LIGHTS New genuine part | Deutsche Parts

As for the connectors wiring loom I have access to that also.

I am in the process of finding a VW Polo AW (2018 onwards) wiring diagram. I have something that I can send you, possibly you might find some info useful...

Here are some links to those that have attempted:

Brian: thanks for the info - I've replied to you PM.

To help with my understanding of this car - please post-up a copy of a vehicle SCAN. If you are not familiar with the process for doing this with OBD11 - follow the steps below (I assume that you use the iOS software version of OBD11):

            To create the SCAN report
            :
            1. Ignition-ON, engine-OFF
            2. Fire-up OBD11 Software - plug the dongle into the car's OBD port and connect to the iPhone
            3. After OBD11 has fully connected - press the big Tap to scan button in the Home screen below (ignore the star)
            4. Wait for the process to complete

To digitize the SCAN report - so that you include the contents in a new post
            :
            1. Back on the Home screen above, select Garage/Vehicle (lower left side of screen)
            2. If you have registered more than ONE vehicle against your account - select the correct car.
            3. Scroll-down the list of options and select History.
            4. Follow the screenshots below
            5. On the second screenshot, select Full scan and de-select ALL other options
            6. After you receive the email that you sent to yourself from the last screenshot - attach a copy of the SCAN file to a new forum post as an attachment
